Ezra Horton b.1763 Monongalia WV ?

Rather than go on in this thread http://saponitown.com/forum/showthread.php?1089-Indian-Traders-South-Carolina where I had posted some of my information, I started a new one. Its a long shot, but other members have this name in their families, as well I’ve noticed he is also next door to two other counties with known NA settlements in WV. So its worth a shot to list him and see what comes up, or rules out. One source says the family had originally come from Ireland and that’s a good probability at least in part. I have to discover his mom and dad.

I had to get creative in my searches to even find him, but did have some luck in placing him in Preston co WV. I discovered the records of the county had been burned at one time which partly explains part of why its been hard to find him. He evidently had been there prior to it becoming Preston, when it was still a part of Monongalia co, and may have been born there. His name is on a petition to have the county separated. One tree lists his brother as being Elihu Horton, who is the sherriff there, but its unconfirmed that they’re brothers.. He is confirmed there on records I’ve found as early as 1785. He marries Elizabeth Jemimah Butler in Monongalia co in 1786. He moves to Coshocton co OH by 1820.

I have gone farther on his wife’s side, and have many tips to follow there, which may change the information I have as I dig into it. The Butlers seem to be in Shenandoah VA, before Monongalia, and Ireland before that. Her mother could be one of two different women as her father married twice. Her brother, or half brother moved with them to Coshocton OH. He marries a Severns from Bucks PA. I wont go farther on her for now, till I go through my tips and tie things together. There were more of the surnames on the link I originally posted between her brother and his wife’s line which makes me curious about them as well. Elizabeth and her brothers children married, so they all are relevant to my search…Severns goes back several generations from PA to MA, NJ, and NY.
