July 6, 2005 at 1:46 pm #15446Welcome Chris!
Do you have any dates for your Hudsons..birth, etc.?
One of my direct ancestral lines is Allen surname out of Va. (New Kent co, Henrico, Hanover). Joseph Allen b 1711 is my direct. His brother Robert Allen had two daughters who married Hudson brothers. They were in North Carolina too.
John Hudson born circa 1739 in Va married Elizabeth Allen. All of their children were born in Bute co NC. All of these sons…
Isaac 1763, Drury 1765, Thomas 1766, John, Jesse and William.
Brother to John who married Elizabeth Allen was William and he married Susannah Allen. Some of their children born in Va but the youngest I show born 3/18/1770 in Bute/Granville co NC. Susannah and William also had sons named Isaac and William..I show Isaac as the father to John B Circa 1739….cont

July 6, 2005 at 1:46 pm #15488Sue (and Chris),
Chris’s HUDSONs go back into 1780 Virginia and 1760 Maryland.
I’m still working on where in Virginia they passed thru before they landed in NC as well as where they came from in Maryland.

Bondsman: James W. BRAD
……………………………………………………………….
Also in 1850 Cabarrus Co, Visit 361, living with Thomas Poteet, 50, and Esther Poteet, 44, both born Cabarrus Co., is an
Elsa HUDSON, 84, female, born Maryland in about 1766.
……………………………………………………………….
I’m speculating but James S. Hudson’s middle name could be Seth, thus accounting for the family info of a Seth Hudson.
There is a Seth Hudson in Cabarrus Co as late as the 1830 census, he had no young males in his household. There are several HUDSON households on the 1830 census with young males of the age of F. A. Hudson, b.abt. 1822:
Fanny Hudson, age 40 to 49, had 1 male age 5 to 9.
Hiram Hudson, age 20 to 29, had 1 male age 5 to 9.
John A. Hudson, age 20 to 29, had 1 male age 5 to 9.
Wiley Hudson, age 20 to 29, had 2 males age 5 to 9.
On the 1840 census, there are also 2 households with a young female to match the age of Sarah A. Archibald, b.abt. 1823.
Moses S. Archibald, age 50 to 59, had 1 female age 15 to 19.
William H. Archibald, age 40 to 49, had 1 female age 15 to 19.
Cabarrus Co was created in 1793 from Mecklenburg Co., NC and there is only one Hudson on the 1800 Cabarrus Census: Jacob Hudson. This isn’t necessarily a direct ancestor, but probably related closely if not.
……………………………………………………
James S. Hudson’s older brother “W. H.” and his family were found on the 1900 Cabarrus Co., NC Census – ED21 Twp 10, Bethel Church; 22 June; Sheet 15 B; Visit 268:

A Catherine Lingle, b.abt. 1788 Rowan Co., NC, and supposedly d. before 1852 Butler Co., Ohio, is confused in several family trees with your Catherine Lingle, who, according to the 1860 & 1870 Rowan Co NC Census, was very much alive. The funny thing is that this other LINGLE line was related to the CRUSE/GRUSS family in Penn that your LINGLE people are probably descended from.
It looks to me like your HORNBARGERs came from Botetourt/Fincastle (now Montgomery) Co., Virginia prior to 1780s., and probably had moved there from Northampton Co., Penn. I have no “absolute” proof of that, but it would provide a good roadmap for your further research.
I couldn’t identify Pinkney Raymer any earlier.
Bill
