Hello Tahwey,
This is the most confusing bunch of people I have ever tried to research! I don’t plan on renewing my subscription to ancestry.com until I finish school. It’s pricey and a waste if you really don’t use it. I take a look at the end of July. Roxie ANn, Levi, and Ransom were names of children. If I see anything on Thackers, Nappers, and Gibsons, I’ll right it down and let you know. I really wish there were more descendents from this family who could give us some answers. They all seemed to disappear. If you haven’t, you might check out Dee Dovey’s page. She has some of the surnames you’re interested in and maybe you can make a connection. March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #33644Hi!
That definitely puts this one to rest. Elizabeth’s Roxie was born in about 1843. She is much too young to be the other one. One of the Gibson/Branham/Napper researchers commented years ago that she always found the “reuse” of unique names to be telling. I will have to see what happened to Roxie and Levi.
Thank you!

March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #33767Tahwey,
I spent a couple days doing genealogy research in Salt Lake City, and found that book about the Thackers, the one which you found had the pages missing. But, I’ll be away from home most of the next 2 months, so it may be a while before I can wade through what I found and get to the copy shop when its open. I plan on copying the parts with your family and sending it. Thought I’d let you know I’ve tacked it onto my long list of things to do.
March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #33768Thanks Spilleddi. No hurry. Email me at “tahwey at gmail dot com” and I’ll send you my mailing address. Also I’ll be glad to reimburse you for any costs.
March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #33769Thanks Davida. Just to add an extra curve to my journey, I have found a connection to another line of Native Americans on my Grandfathers side with the name of Bass. My Great Great Great Grandfather Samuel Oiler married Elizabeth Bass who was born in North Carolina 1795-99. Possibly daughter of Frederick Bass Jr. b.1770 and wife Nancy. Fredericks line is Frederick Sr. b. 1750 and wife Olive, William b. 1712 (unknown wife), John b. 1673 and wife Love Harris, William b. 1654 wife Catherine Lanier, John b. 1613 who married Elizabeth, daughter of Nansamond Indian Chief.

Despite the curves, you still appear to be moving forward. That’s a very good thing.

March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #34153I am new to the site. !!!!
My Thacker came from Louisa County, Virginia
Frances Fanny Thacker born abt 1770 married Ephraim Padgett 1793 in Louisa County, Virginia
I have not been able to connect her to any more Thacker’s in Louisa Conty, however
her mother Massie Thacker was in Fluvanna County which was a part of Albemarle County at one time.
Massie Thacker probably born abt 1740-1750 had the following children:
Frances, Mary, Milly, Thomas, and Rachel Thacker.
I notice that in one of Tahwey’s messages that she memtioned William Dalton.
I think William Dalton along with several other’s and some Thackers sold land to Richard Kennon.
Rachel Thacker married William Dalton prior to 1800 probably Louisa County.
I dont know if this is the same William Dalton that ” Tahwey” is speaking of or not.
This Massie Thacker probably had step-sons Martin-Nelson-Nicholas Sprouse as this information was in the Will of James Sprouse 1800 in Louisa County, Virginia
These Sprouce & Thacker migrated to Gallia & Vinton County, Ohio also.
Will gladley share my information and thoughts with any one interested.
Got to go, cant wait to read more on this wonderful site. !!!!!

March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #34155Hi Mike…..I have two Thacker ancestors named David that I cannot connect to anyone in Louisa County. One David Thacker (1781-1860) married to Sarah LeMay (1781-1869). The other David Thacker (no dates) married to Sally Flannigan. I have a William Dalton, son of John Dalton and Mary Branham, who married to a Rachel Thacker. These sound like the same folks you mentioned. I live in Gallia County Ohio, and our family cemetery here is full of Thacker, Napper, Dalton, and Freemans who came here in the early 1800’s. If you have anything that will help me connect my family here with folks with the same surnames who lived in Virginia and North Carolina I would be overjoyed to share info…….Tahwey
March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #34172Hi, I am new here and still trying to find my way around the site. In meantime I would like to post some of my research I have on THACKER Family I connect to, and maybe someone will connect with or help me.
Massie THACKER born abt 1740-1750 and was in Fluvanna & Louisa Counties. She was last located in Louisa County when she was named in the Will of James Sprouse dated 1800.She may have lived with Nelson Sprouse her step-son in Louisa 1820 Census
Her children from what I have were:
Frances Thacker born abt 1770’s married Ephraim Padgett 1793 Louisa County
Mary Thacker born abt 1770’s
Milly Thacker born abt 1770’s
Thomas Thacker born abt 1770’s
Rachel Thacker born abt 1770’s married William Dalton 21 Aug 1797 Louisa County
These are the ” Base Children” of Massie Thacker meaning that parents were not married. The Fluvanna wanted to “Bound” them out in 1778, but I dont think they were until 1783. Why, I dont know. !!! Her husband is still unknown Need help here !!!!! She has to be connected to other THACKER’s in Louisa County. HOW ???
Massie Thacker as of 1800 Louisa County was living with James Sprouse as she was given his Estate when he died in 1800. I cannot locate her again !!!
James Sprouse had three (3) males himself named Martin–Nelson–Nicholas Sprouse.
I dont think Massie Thacker & James Sprouse were ever married, but both had children of their own when they lived together. !!
Nelson Sprouse 1830 Louisa County Census listed as FA ( Free Africian) ??
has several males & females and 1 individual listed as “All others except Indians not taxed” which may be Massie Thacker ??
These Sprouse’s went from Louisa County to Gallia County, Ohio and are found in various Census records.
Martin Sprouse died in Vinto County, Ohio age 90years in 1875
Thackers from this family may or may not have traveled with them to Ohio.
Thomas Thacker was in Gallia County, Ohio but his age does not match and he is too young to be son of Massie Thacker.
I think ” Tahwey” posted a Deed dated 3 Dec 1833 in Louisa County naming William Dalton and Robert Thacker & David Thacker among others.
I would hope that William Dalton is the same that married Massie Thacker’s daughter
Rachel Thacker Dalton. It would show a very strong connection between these lines. Are David & Robert Thacker cousins of my Thacker Family ?? Wiliam Dalton was part owner I assume of the 13 1/2 acres of land that was left to these individuals by their mother Mary Dalton deceased. Was Mary Dalton the Mary Thacker ( dau of Massie Thacker )??? I have more questions than answers !!!!
Would gladly correspond with other Thacker’s along these lines either thru this site or thru my E-Mail pad7100@earthlink.net
Appreciate the space given me here. Very interesting site.
Since some of these Thackers & Sprouse were listed as Free Africans and then as White Could they have been part Indian ??? I have not heard of any American Indian in the family, but certainly would be interested if so. !!!
Appreciate any help and will gladly share what I have.
Mike
March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #35515You must be related to me, every name you have outlined is in my tree, however it’s at this point, where I hit a roadblock, any information you can find out would be helpful. (The Donahoe Side of the family all ended up in Vinton Country, but didn’t feel the need to pass along family information). Melody Donahoe Koert
March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #35516I’m feeling the same disappointment with my family lines, this is the MOST confused family I have ever seen. My father James Donahoe, once said, the least I know about the family the better! I swear no one wanted us to find out our linkages, what a shame. My email is melody@melodykoert.com If anyone ever untangles this mess let me know. I’m exhausted.
March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #35517I don’t have a clue as to what I’m doing. But maybe someone can help me. I have never seen such a messed up family, but my connections say that Peachy A. Napper (My paternal 3rd Great Grandmother )Born Aug 27, 1823 (Greenbrier, VA) Died-Aug 30, 1896, was married to Mosese Freeman Sept 19, 1795 VA Died in Wilkesville Vinton Ohio on Dec 02, 1881 (My 3rd Great Grandfather), Children of this marraige were: Harriet Freeman, Mary Freeman, Joseph Freeman, Moses Freeman Jr., William Freeman, George Freeman, Josiah Freeman, Adelia A Freeman, Sanford Freeman, Thomas J. Freeman, Louise M. Freeman, John Freeman.
At this point, I can’t find out parents and the trail goes completely bonkers at this point, can anyone direct me to the nearest insane asylum or give me information, this is driving me nuts.
Any help would be appreciated, I’m lost, Melody
March 13, 2009 at 3:09 am #35647Do you know what happened to the George Freeman of this family? I have a George B. Freeman, born about 1810 in NC who went to Missouri then to Greene Co., Arkansas, where he died before 1860. His wife was Nancy ___. Children were Presley, H. Green, Tilman Howard, Henry C., Abigail, Demarias, and Isaac Allen Freeman. Green Freeman was a few years older than George and was in Greene Co. shortly before George moved there.
