Hello Everyone:
I was wondering if anyone in here has had any Native American DNA testing done. I would be interested in hearing from you. It isn’t that expensive and it can tell you at least whether or not you are searching in the right direction.
I have submitted a DNA sample and look forward to getting my results sometime in the next 8 weeks.
My Great Grandmother Camille Bull was supposedly Sioux Indian.
My Great Grandmother Mourning/Mona Napier Ledford DAYwas supposedly Cherokee. Family stories say that Mourning was her Indian Name and Mona was her English name. I have found no proof of this so far but family insists that she was Indian. Mona used her maiden name Napier even though her father was actually a Ledford. I can’t explain that one. Especially, when I consider the time period she was living in.
My Grandmother Bertha Williams was supposedly Apache Indian. I can’t find any trace of her at all.

December 4, 2004 at 3:44 am #11948One of my great grandma’s sister married Tarleton Bull — he was born in Wisconsin I believe it was but his family came down to Missouri then Indian Territory (Oklahoma). I don’t know anything about him altho we have searched several dead ends.
I was told about a Delaware “Chief Bull” but we never found a connection.
The Day surname has popped up here many times. Where did your ancestors live nad when did they live there?
If your ancestor was Lakota they probably were from the region of the Western Great Lakes to the Northern Plains. If Apache, well there are 2 federally recognized Apache Tribes in Western Oklahoma, but the rest (which is the vast majority) are from Southern New Mexico and Arizona.
Good luck.

ps — I think there are “Lupan” Apache in SW Texas — forgot them — sorry.

My Great Great Granfather was William BULL. Family story has it that he was a scout for the army. He was supposedly Sioux Indian as was his wife Lucinda (maiden Name Unknown) Bull/Buell

There is really no such thing as “Native American DNA testing”, it’s just a regular DNA test. People are making a lot of money from those searching for their “proof” of Indian ancestry. I hope you aren’t paying for the test. If you research DNA testing, you will find that it shows who you are or aren’t realted to. Yes I know some tribes are using the DNA tests, but did you know that the Mormon Church is on a crusade so to speak to get DNA from Native Americans? One must ask why are they rounding people up & taking their DNA. I don’t see it as a step forward. Sad.
December 4, 2004 at 3:44 am #12182Yes, I know that a Native American DNA test dosen’t exist outside of regular DNA. However, I did have the test done and should have my results in a few weeks.
It isn’t just about being Native American for me. I may not have any “Native American DNA”. However, I am curious about my ethnicity, whatever that may be.
You are right. The test can prove who or who you are not related to. The test can also tell you where your ancestors may have originated and a migration pattern for those individuals. As far as being Native American, the test wouldn’t serve any real purpose if I wanted to know that alone. In the end it will not change who I am.
I have no idea why the Mormon church would be on a crusade for Native American DNA. I know that most religious individuals are talking about the seven daughters of EVE. Maybe they are trying to prove/disprove whether or not we all originated from one woman. I also know that a lot of questions among the scientific community about the origins of Native Americans and how long they have been here.

December 4, 2004 at 3:44 am #12806Mourning was suppose to have been a Ledford? The Days were also suppose to have been Ledfords also. Nancy Day, the Grandmother of Edmon Day, was either whole or half Native American.
Thanks
Sandy
