Greetings all.
I’m a new member to the forum and am highly excited about it. However, I need some help. I recently received a picture of my gg grandmother whom I am told was Indian. It was definitely apparent in her picture. My family are for the most part reddish colored with high cheekbones, long wavy hair and aquiline noses. It’s apparent again. Doing some genealogy, the census records tell me she was from Alabama but her mother was from Virginia. I zeroed in on Virginia as the root of my Indian ancestry from circa 1840-1850’s. My gg grandmother is wearing a long tunic, which appears to be stroud cloth (broadcloth). There is ribbonwork at the end of her sleeves which are themselves wide hemmed. The ribbonwork consists of two concentric bands of ribbons. The face of the tunic has ribbonwork that stretches from the shoulders down to the chest region in a block style. The tunic is cut in a V at the neck and appears to be hooded. Underneath the tunic, there seems to be an under shirt, barely visible, that is topped with ribbonwork as well. Does this sound familiar to anyone? It’s similar in style to the outfit Carrie Buck has on in her picture here at Saponitown.

Can you post a picture here? Use the “post reply” button instead of the ‘quick reply’. There’s an option to add an attachment near the bottom. Browse to the location of the photo on your hard drive and hit ‘submit.’ If you need help scanning, let us know. If you can either scan it at 72 dpi, or, if you can use an image editor, edit it to 72 dpi. If you can resize it to 5″ wide, that will help.
If you’re interested in preparing your own photo, I use Paint Shop Pro to photoshop my pictures. They have an inexpensive lighter version, Snapfire, with a free trial, after that it’s $39.99. I I haven’t used it, but it’s probably similar to what I have, and I could help talk you through how to use it.

I’m currently not able to post a picture, but will attempt to do so in the near future. There is one other detail regarding my ancestress’s dress I left out. It was belted, but still rather loose-fitting. As soon as I’m able to, I will post the picture.
