June 20, 2005 at 2:47 am #15273Welcome, Jeremiah,
I would like to see if I can help you.
What was your GG-Grandfather’s name?
Do you know about when he lived?
Please post what you know about your family, including names, dates, anecdotal or other family story information – even if you don’t think it will help, it usually will.

Per the 1920 Pendleton Co., WV Census,
Pendleton Arbogast was 8 yrs old, making him born about 1912.
His parents are listed as Jacob W., 41, and Alice, 35.
On the 1910 Pendleton Co., Census, Jacob W. Arbogast’s wife is listed as Laura A., so her full name was likely Laura Alice.
I don’t have any reference material for Pendleton Co. marriages or births (of her children) that would tell us what her maiden name was. According to the 1930 census, she was married at age 16, which would put their marriage in late 1900 or sometime during 1901. (The 1900 census listing Jacob W. Arbogast as 22 yrs old, still single and living at home, was dated 21 June 1900, so they were married after that date.)
Per the 1900 census, Jacob W. Arbogast was born in March 1878, son of William, b. April 1850 WV., and Margaret, b. Dec 1849.
On that census, Mary Weiner, b. June 1823, 76 yrs old, Widowed, and listed as William Arbogast’s “Mother-in-Law”, would mean that Jacob’s mother Margaret was a Weiner.
To find Laura Alice’s maiden name, I’d suggest you go to the Pendleton Co., WV courthouse and look at those marriage records for Jacob W. Arbogast’s marriage to see what Laura Alice’s maiden name was. With that, we can probably find her on the 1900 census and trace that family back in time.
(I have Jacob and his family traced back through the 1850 census and will post that to you when I get back in town – I’m going to be at the campout in Virginia through the 28th of June, so I won’t get your reply until then, but if you get any more info, go ahead and post it here and I’ll pick it up when I get back.)
