Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Hi All,
I stumbled across this site, and was very pleased to find it. I know some of you, and some of you may already know me. My name is Donnye, I live in Greensboro. I claim both Tuscarora and Black. I don’t feel like I cannot accept one without the other.
Anyway, I was born and raised in Greensboro, NC but my parents are from Edgecombe/Halifax County and Scotland/Hoke Co. NC. I work as a Firefighter/Paramedic, and I absolutely love my job. You’ll never hear me not talk about it. I’m a dancer at Powwows, and thats were many may know me from.
I too have an interest in this site because growing up, I was told I had “Blackfoot”, but I wrote it off because the only Blackfoot I knew were in Montana and Canada, but know I see how that could have been passed down. I didn’t know too much about it until I got to this site, and I’ve learned a lot. I’ve done a bit of research (especially of Tribal Histories)not a lot, but I may be of some help. I do need help with some family names… Please feel free to drop me a line when you have a chance…

Welcome Donnye, glad you found your way here.
Hi Donnye
New here too.
Have you heard of the singing group Ulali. Two of the singers are Tuscarora and there is an article about Tuscarora/Black history, particularly in NC in the Aboriginal Voices Volume 3, Number 2…the one with Buffy St.Marie on the cover, by Pura Fe. It is very informative and there is a website for Ulali.
