Hello and thank you for allowing me to be apart of this message forum! I am by no means ‘new’ to using message forums, and look forward to sharing and gaining information and insight here.
For as long as my momma can remember, she had been told that there was NA blood in her from her daddy’s side. It wasn’t until a few years ago she was told that it is on her momma’s side too! No one knew where it came from for sure there, until an article was posted in the Prattville Progress from Autauga County, Alabama. The article itself was about the newly discovered (old) Kingston cemetry. The Article has been taken down and I don’t remember when it was written. I believe it was last spring/summer. I should have saved it to my computer (the page) but I didn’t. I do believe my parents got a copy of the article when they were down there recently. I will post that info when I can.
John Wainwright is her g-grandfather. He is listed in the article as being Blackfoot Indian and a Civil War veteran. The article says about him: " HE WAS A BLACKFOOT INDIAN, ALMOST 7 FEET TALL, OVER 300 POUNDS , WITH 12 INCH HANDS, SO BIG HE COULDN'T MAKE A FIST".
He is listed in the census one year as being born in S. Carolina and another year being born in Georgia. According to the Census’ he was born around 1835-1838. You can see my family line here
The mod noticed my surname as Rose and asked if it was Blackfoot possibly. No. It is my husband’s name and is from Germany. More than likely Jewish.
There are two more surnames on my momma’s side that we’ve been told are possibly NA. The first is Esco from Georgia in the early 1800’s. The other is Boatfield or Boartfield. More information on the Boatfield name is here
Hope this helps and we can all help each other out!
November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm #28964This is William James Boatfield. It is believed that at least his Father was 100% NA

This is Ebeniezer Wainwright, son of Jon Wainwright the Blackfoot Indian and his wife Mary Caledonia Durden

This is a scan from i think a historical book from Autauga Co, AL. This is Jogn Wainwright and his wife Georgia (Jane?) Ann Risor/Reser
November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm #29089Hi Teshuah! I was just scrolling thru posts and saw yours. Just wanted to tell you your pics are awesome. I also am new to Saponitown. When I was a young girl my paternal Grandpa told me his Grandma was Indian. He passed on just shy of my 13th bday. But, he used to tell me stories abt her. He said she used to slice the bark of a certain tree and chew on it and it kept her from getting cavities in her teeth… and that when she passed on she had no cavities, all her teeth, and long black hair with no gray. I don’t know if he was talking abt his paternal Grandma or his maternal Grandma, but I feel it was his Mother’s Mom. She was born in 1838 in Alleghania VA. Well, just wanted to make contact with someone doing the same kinda family research as me. Good luck in your search and hope to correspond with you in future. I’m very determined to find my Native American ancestry and it sounds like you are too. My Father’s favorite saying was always “where there’s a will, there’s a way” and my Mother’s was/is “when the going gets tough, the tough get going!” Once again good luck and maybe we’ll find what we’re looking for. Many Blessings:) Greydove
November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm #29090Hi and welcome,
Check out “Quest for Facts” member, Linda, she also has Wainwright in her linage. I found it on the search tool at the top of the page. There may be others with that surname here. Best of luck to both of you.

November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm #29094Hello and welcome! Your John Wainwright reminds me of this fellow:
This is Levi Patterson Collins, who would be a cousin to the woman in my avatar (and me, of course).
Your Ebeneizer looks “more Indian” than his father, which is something I’ve noticed in some of my lines, too.
November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm #29106Hi Janette and Beeleaf! Thanks for the welcome and wish for luck in family search. Janette, I read one of your other posts abt your pottery. I love NA pottery. Thank you for responding to our posts. Beeleaf, you are right! Your family pic and Teshuas do look very similar. I have been doing alot of digging and went on a message board and saw one of my surnames (Nichols) that was titled “Anybody got any Indian in their Nichols?” There were over 90 replys and I scrolled thru everyone of them. Now, I thought Hart was my NA connection, and I still do, but I am finding that I am getting way too many hints that it is on the other side of my tree and mainly Nichols. Anybody ever heard of “Brothertown Indians”? All I heard on the Nichols board was a couple posts suggesting Nichols might be Brothertown Indians. One guy said it was a band of Indians from different tribes that grouped together when they were being “removed” from their lands and one said something abt them coming from New England. I don’t know I am going to try to find out. I never heard of them before. Well, take care and happy hunting! Peace:) Greydove (Donna)
November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm #29107Just an after thought: I didn’t mean to imply Nichols were Brothertown Indians. One person said that and two people followed up abt that tribe and one person was irate that anyone thought Nichols was any type of Indian. Here is an interesting link: http://members.aol.com/rarebk/cherokee.html Enjoy! Greydove:)
November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm #29108Hey, just an after thought. I don’t want people to think I thru a Brothertown blanket over Nichols. That was just one persons comment, not mine. Any way heres a neat link. Enjoy! Greydove:) http://members.aol.com/rarebk/cherokee.html
November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm #29109Hey Greydove. Don’t worry, I think we knew you were pondering an interesting idea.
Nichols, Nickles, Nuckles—not new names to ponder around here. Where were yours from?
FWIW, there are those who will also swear that all Collins people are from England or Ireland.
Have not heard of Brothertown Indians, but will look them up.

November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm #29115Hi SAJ! Thanks for the reply and direction to the Brothertown Indian post. It was very interesting. Wow, Wachinika did a very thorough search and I really want to thank her, too. So thanks Wachinika!! Well, I guess I should bow out of this thread for awhile til Teshuaha comes back in to post. So, I’ll post in my thread from here on. But in the mean time thank you all for replying. Take care and many blessings 🙂 Greydove
