I am new to this group. But I come with the old story of somebody in the family has Native blood. A couple of family members have told me that it is true. One says it is through my GGM’s line and the other has no idea which line.
I am thankful for being allowed to join this group. I look forward to the things I will learn here.
My great grandmother was Bertha Clyde Caldwell. Born 10-23-1890 Gaston Co NC. Died 2-11-1985 Wake Co NC. She out lived 3 husbands. My grandfather was Charlie Pearce Whitehead. Born 4-30-1885 Newton Co GA. Died 6-18-1937 Vance Co., NC. Her second husband was R Pratt Early. Third husband was Bill Bailey.
Bertha’s parents were James Augustus Caldwell B-11-9-1850 Lincoln Co., NC. D-6-18-1925 Gaston Co., NC. He married Sarah Jane Robinson. Born 8-1-1850 Lincoln Co., NC. Died 12-23-1930 Gaston Co., NC.
Bertha’s grandparents-
James Augustus Caldwell Sr b- 5-31-1820, Catawba Co., NC. Died 3-18-1876. He maried Jane H. I am not able to make out her last name on James Jr’s death certificate. But was told it was Carpenter. According to James’s cert. it says she was born in Lincoln Co.
Henry Connor “Connie” Robinson b- 2-20-1826 Lincoln Co., NC. D- 11-6-1854 Lincoln Co., NC. He married Mary Rebecca Warlick b- 9-9-1827 D- 2-11-1863
Bertha’s Great Grandparents-
John Caldwell 8-3-1779 Ireland? D- bef. 1860. He married Hanna Pickett Robinson b- 5-12-1795 d- 5-26-1857
David “Big Dave” Robinson B- abt 1791 D- 3-16-1847 Lincoln Co., NC. He married Rosanna Lillis Wilson B- 2-12-1779 D- 6-10-1873 Lincoln Co., NC
Absolom/Absalom Warlick B- 4-11-1796 D- 3-31-1865 Catawba Co., NC. He married Sarah”Sally” Seitz B- 5-14-1803 D- 8-7-1879
February 29, 2008 at 4:18 pm #29971Hey Amy, good to finally see you at Saponitown. If you haven’t searched Wynn already, do that. I know we discuss Wynn/ Glenn unions that appear to be mixed…… and you and I have already discussed the possibilities with your Robinsons, Whiteheads and Wilsons. Happy hunting.

February 29, 2008 at 4:18 pm #29975Welcome Painted Horse,
I recognize many of your surnames…if you use the search function, you may find some helpful information.
There are many here helpful in genealogical searches.

February 29, 2008 at 4:18 pm #30516Hey Amy…didn’t see your post until now…welcome aboard! To all….this is one special lady that helps us survey cemeteries and does a lot of foot/paper work for us. Not to mention she has kids…and a hubby and fosters to animals. Creator blessed us when she crossed our path. Hope you can break down some of those brick walls.
Aho

February 29, 2008 at 4:18 pm #30521Greetings and salutations Painted Horse. Even though I’m older than dirt I’m semi new to here. Your looking for something on your Robinson line. My Robinsons are supposed to be Cherokee?or other? …. The family has been looking but haven’t found anything that says yay! or nay!…. there was a rather large Robinson tree that was {?} on genealogy.com years ago that some in the family thought fit {?}. there wasn’t much but heresay… but one of the family stories says that one of the gggreatgrands was a horse trader and traveled from east to west U.S. and was married to a full blood NDN woman? …. He was supposedly hung for horse stealing ????…. I’ll have to dig out my papers and have a look see what I have ….
February 29, 2008 at 4:18 pm #30536Becky,
Was always told that I was hard headed but I think I am getting a concussion from banging my head on these walls.
As you and Ken say..the info will be found when it is time. Just like I will find my Samuel when it is time.
February 29, 2008 at 4:18 pm #30538Yellow Woman,
I came across an old email from the same aunt that told me her grandmother or great grandmother was indian. In this email she told me it was a grandfather or great. So who knows.
I have one Robinson that married a Terry. I have read some where that indians are in this line some where. I haven’t worked on that line in a while.

I have now learned Jane’s last name was Heavner. It has been said that she was not married to James Sr. But instead had a child (James, my ggf) with his brother Tod out of wedlock.
This supposedly confirmed by a reverand from Daniels Lutheran. I have tried finding proof of this confirmation. I have been in contact with the church as well as the Crumley archives in SC. There was also a possible mention of this in a book in the Lincoln County NC library. But the librarain did not find mention of it.

Caldwell
My family (Stewart) were skilled craftsmen, who sometimes used Caldwell and other anglo- surnames as first names, quite a statement about their between worlds status. Caldwell and Ruffin were living close in the 1840 Person County census, I believe. I have to check that one, if you’re interested. There’s more to that story.

February 29, 2008 at 4:18 pm #32602I would love to hear the story. The Tod I mentioned earlier was married to Minerva Ruffin Cain. I have not researched her line yet. So I don’t know if Ruffin is her middle or maiden name.
February 29, 2008 at 4:18 pm #36599For those that don’t know, Amy Hines Ralston (Painted Horse) crossed over this year in April. She lost her husband and best friend in January of this year as well. We can only surmise that between the cancer and a broken heart that Creator saw fit to take her into His loving arms. She leaves behind two children, Joseph and Amanda. She also leaves behind many friends in Person county and SC where she resided the last couple of years. We will miss her wit and wisdom along with her talent for finding ancestors. Rest in peace, dear friend….we miss your smiling face. Love you, Becky and Ken
