Thank you Mary. I am told that my great grandmother died there. I wasn’t sure if it existed or not. I have heard of Norfolk Virginia but not Norfork.

I haven’t heard of “Norfork” either;
I’ve only heard of “Norfolk”.
But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist!
Maybe it does;I’ll give an example.
I visited my grandparents quite a bit
when I was little.They lived in Albemarle
CO,VA (surrounds Charlottesville) which is a very rural county.
Since Albemarle’s streets and roads were not on a grid system (directionals such as NW,SE,etc.),locals oriented themselves by naming various crossroads.In Albemarle “Simeon”,”White Hall”,”Shadwell” are some of the crossroads.
I suspect that maybe “Norfork” might
be a locally-known crossroad or subdivision.If you know what county your great-grandmother was in,a county map might help you locate where Norfork is.

Sheree, I’m pretty sure Norfolk and Norfork are the same place. A couple of my parishioners from Philly about 10 years back were in the Navy and were stationed in Norfolk. They said the local pronunciation was Norfork. Seems I also remember that info from years ago when a bunch of friends sat around trying to think of place names pronounced differently from their spellings. Norfolk/Norfork was one of those, as was Worcester, Mass. (pronounced Wooster).

I have family in Norfolk Va. People tend to pronounce the folk as fork. I usually take 158 E through Emporia Va which if off 95 N. Norfolk is about 20 miles from Virginia Beach.
