Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
The Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation is pleased to announce the release of a new documentary DVD entitled “Occaneechi- The Survival of the Circle”. Produced by Professor Ray Johnson of Elon University, in co-operation with the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, it tells the story of the Tribe’s history, struggle for official recognition, and future plans.
It will be availible at the Tribal Office, various Pow-wows, and (hopefully) by mail order. Cost is $20.00, and the proceeds go to help build the new tribal center on the 26 acres of land the tribe just purchased in the Texas Community.
It’s not as detailed as I would have liked, but still is a very nice first effort, drawing a lot on interviews with tribal members, and including a lot of old family pictures.
Is any of this drawn from the Excavation of Occoneechee Town CD? I just sent away for a copy of that this past week.
No, it’s entirely new
