This may be of interest to others researching families from Patrick & Henry Co, VA, and related counties (Pittsylvania, Grayson, Stokes). There are many familiar names mentioned, including Riddle, Turner, Corn, Burnett, Taylor, Bolt, etc.
I think there may be other excerpts & I will post them as I find them. This one is from 1809:

July 14, 2007 at 5:09 pm #27423July 14, 2007 at 5:09 pm #27424This one from 1811 connects at least one family (Mayo, Cowell) to Albemarle County:

It also mentions orphan Joshua Haynes, Bolling, Deal, Reynolds, etc.
July 14, 2007 at 5:09 pm #27425Ahh, now here is who I was looking for. Collins, or in these documents, Collings:
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/patrick/courts/cob11803.txt
I’m thinking this could be a pretty big clue for me, but would love some help from anyone experienced at interpreting the wording. This William Collins is likely my gg.. grandpa. Perhaps this Thomas was his father? I believe said Thomas would have been the fellow in early Pittsylvania Co (before Patrick existed).
Here is the section I’d like to understand better:
“Administration of the Estate of Thomas Collings deceased is granted William Collings who qualified according to law & together with William Carter his security entered into bond and acknowledged the same accordingly.
Nathl. Smith, Andr. Joyce, Wm. Smith & Wm. Burge or any 3 of them are appd. to appraise the Estate of the said Thomas Collings Deceased & make rept. thereof to the Court.”
Thanks.
July 14, 2007 at 5:09 pm #27426I believe there were two Thomas Collins in early Pittsylvania Co, but here is at least one of them on deeds. John Turner is also mentioned here:

July 14, 2007 at 5:09 pm #27427That’s enough for me today, but if anyone is interested, here’s a link to an index of old Patrick Co. court records:

As I was skimming, I noticed the surname Gaines mentioned. Was Gaines ever related to Goins?
July 14, 2007 at 5:09 pm #27464Here’s some mention of Buzzard, Goins, etc.:
