Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
It has been passed down through many generations of my family that we are Blackfoot. This line of my family is from North Carolina. This is what I’ve been told by my Perry family: that my ancestor/s came to America from England(possibley on a ship of prisoners) & settled at Roanoke / the lost Colony, N.Carolina, & they blended in with the local tribes.
I know my Perry’s are from the Outer Banks area, I’ve got them back to c1800……..still researching……..
The line I trace this through is my Perry family. Other surnames that tie in are Burgess, Tillet, Beacham, Boswell ……..I am still researching. From speaking with a cousin, some of the men didn’t marry the women, or there is no “record” of marriage. Also, it was said that alot of the Native American ancestry is from the women. (so, maybe they weren’t married as far as “white” standards?)
Unfortunately my family did NOT keep written records………
Does anyone here have any Perry’s in their family form N.C.? Any info. at all would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like a common enough story but we’d need some specific information on names and locations. I’m not aware of Blackfoot people out on the Outer Banks unless they moved there from the interior.
