After his death, Shikellamy was succeeded by his son John Shikellamy, also known as John Logan and Tachnachdoarus (spreading oak). Another one of Shikellamy’s sons, James Logan, was named for James Logan, the Quaker Provincial Secretary of Pennsylvania and de facto Superintendent of Indian Affairs. One of these two sons — historians have disagreed which one — later became well known in American history as “Chief Logan,” who played a pivotal role in Dunmore’s War in 1774 and issued an oft-quoted speech known as “Logan’s Lament.” A third son was named John Petty, after a trader. Two of his sons were killed in battle.[4]
I don’t know if this is your Petty but if this matches your family stories then you will want to find stuff about Ollie Nionee mom and how she was abducted pregnant with a son of Oconostota…. so one of Skikellamy’s sons is not really his son but he raised him ..
to help identify which son is the full son …..( because I don’t remember , I feel lucky to remember the surnames connected to great grandma stories ) according to Norton’s diary the full brother is still alive when Norton visits his relatives in cherokee country and stays at Shoeboots house . and the full sibling of Ollie lives ” is a near neighbor”(?) to where Norton lives that is what Norton says. . because the living Oconstota’s son and half brother of Ollie ( not from ollie mom) has a discussion with John Norton about his Half brother and how he is doing in his old age..
so if you are from that Petty line you might want to read Norton diary also to see if John Norton gives clues to where he is living during those years.
I was very excited to see a (petty or pettit ) that might be connected to my great grandma family. that was great to find. another name off the list..
April 22, 2008 at 12:02 am #37098oh in my sleep I remembered the Ollie full brother did not live by John Norton , but by the Onondaga Chief who visited his relative in cherokee territory also and traveled with John Norton . the Chief who’s mother must have been taken Like Ollie’s mom had been or at least the same time as Ollie’s mom was taken if not the same lady. so you might want to figure out where that was he lived .
