I am not Catholic but I read an article about Pope Benedict XVI thoughts regarding the treatment Native Americans and Black/African Americans have endured in the U.S. of A. Most of us are very much aware of the injustices.

What are your thoughts regarding his comment:

WASHINGTON – Pope Benedict XVI praised America as a land of opportunity and hope Thursday as he celebrated the first public Mass of his U.S. pilgrimage, but he lamented that the country’s promise fell short for American Indians and blacks.

Hope for the future, he said, “is very much a part of the American character.”…………

“Americans have always been a people of hope,” he said during his homily. “Your ancestors came to this country with the experience of finding new freedom and opportunity.

“To be sure, this promise was not experienced by all the inhabitants of this land; one thinks of the injustices endured by the native American peoples and by those brought here forcibly from Africa as slaves.”………….

Hi 1 Optimistic, My thoughts are that the Pope “hit the nail on the head”~so to speak. In this country, there was never any worse injustice done to any people as bad as what was done to the native people here after the European immigration began and with that event, native people from another country called Africa, were kidnapped and brought here against their will and treated equally as bad and injust. How our Creator must have cried in sadness. It is up to you and I and all of us here and now that can and should make sure that this kind of inhumanity never happens again and to try to right some wrongs if it is in any small or great way we can, while we can~for our children and our future grandchildren, wouldn’t you agree? Thanks for posting this as I missed the news airing~wrapped up on computer in family tree hunting~~I know my ndn blood pulls at my heart~strings to find them, do yours? We’re all mixed bloods of many different kinds, to some extent, hey?;) Blessings~Greydove~^~

Did anybody see the movie “The New World”? I liked on the special features section where they said they think its about ntime the natives peoples that first greeted the English settlers were given federal recognition.
