Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Hello all, I am a first time poster in this forum and general all around newbie to the genealogy game. I have a couple of questions. It seems I have a direct male line leading back to Joseph Collins who was born around 1730.

It seems from on this site and other sources that Joseph was possibly married 3 times. The only possible evidence of a link between Rachel Bunch and Joseph Collins marriage seems to be the will of Henry Bunch, Rachel’s father. Does anybody have any more information regarding this possible marriage and link? Also was Henry Bunch indian/african american/both? What about dna testing? Could that reveal something in my case considering its an all male line going back to the marriage? YDna testing would not cover this, correct?
thanks,
jay
I’m not sure if we connect anywhere or not. But Michael Collins who died in Bertie County started out in Nansemond or Isle of Wight Co. VA and is somehow connected to my Collinses; and there are Keens intermarried with both the VA and NC Collins lines. You might want to take a look at the early chapters of my online history:

and see if anything rings a bell. Generally my own line doesn’t claim a link to the Melungeon Collinses, but there do seem to be some Indian connections, so anything is possible. Collinses have been in Tidewater VA/NC from very early times and I suspect that there are a lot of linkages that aren’t well documented. Good luck.
