I suspect a DNA match of mine having a Saponi connection. She said she and her family where told that her grandmothers grandfather Rafe Hopkins was a full blooded “Black foot/feet”- but they haven’t been able to confirm or track down any info on his line or parents – the census records say he and his parents were born in Alabama.

Rafe Hopkins was born around 1871 to Vent and Mason Hopkins.His mother Mason’s parents came from South Carolina and his father Vents’ came from Virginia and in the 1870s, he was a farmer. They are listed as “black” in the census.

Does anyone think a Saponi connection for this family is possible? Any feedback at all would be most appreciated.

A “Ralph Hopkins” is listed in the 1880s federal census in Alabama but we’re not quite sure if this is the same as Rafe Hopkins based on the names of his children. So, this Ralph Hopkins could be a different person than Rafe Hopkins, and thus have different parents and such.
