Hi Bll my name is debra and I’m trying to ind out what na tribes may have been in and around stokes and rockingham countys in nc. I was always told my grandmother was cherokee but i am reading there was no cherokee in the area . these 2 area is very close to the va line. my g-mother was born in snow creek stokes county but lived in goinstown area in rockingham county. she is listed as indian on 1930 census. Her name was Jennie Hickman (Rickman) there was a surname change at some point and time. Her father was peter hickman (Rickman) and his father was john rickman On census they are listed mulotto. I would like to join a tribe but don’t know which tribe debra
