Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
My grandmother was a healer. She could remove warts, blow the fire out,and she could stop bleeding. I witnessed these several times. She would just rub the warts or blemishes and say something that no one could understand. She would then tell them to go home and gorget about them and they would be gone. One time she was visiting us and a neighbor man cut himself very badly. They knew about my grandmother and sent a runner to ask for her help. She walked to the end of our porch and looked in the direction where the man was and said some words and told them to go home the bleeding had stopped. She was of Cherokee heritage.
My grandmother was able to do this too. I also cut my pinky toe almost off on the right foot when I was small (following my cousin wading a creek in eastern ky when I stepped on a broken pop bottle) and I was bleeding very baddly and my grandmother called for my dad to bring me to her. She bathed my foot in plain water and soaked the dirt out and the whole time saying something I could not hear and it healed completely in no time. She was the grand daughter of a cherokee lady named Tackett.
I can remember some of these cures by heart.
