Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Techteach,
I will let you know if I turn up anything noteworthy. After my initial burst of discovery, I’m not finding anything terribly revealing. I will do some further digging, though. One thing I did see was where a Chaney from Pittsylvania Co. was married to a Sallie Bird. I’ve read that Bird is a surname associated with Saponi or Tutelo. Not sure if the names are significant in this case, but given the geographic area, I thought it worth noting.

Randall,
None of my names except Green are listed as Saponi either and I believe that the NA in the Green line is Shawnee. Some of the names that marry into mine are Saponi though or close to Saponi. My Blackfoot ID is McLane which is not listed unless it was a renaming of Lane which is a Saponi name. Several Saponi names marry into my line though. One of my Sinkey gggreat uncles though, bears a resemblence to the last known living Tutelo, as well as someone else’s Carmel Indian ancestor.
