Speaking of tools, I’ve been thinking about adding something to the site that might help pull things together. We need a database of surnames and locations we could all input our family data to, then we can search on names or locations and see the patterns. I keep hearing the same counties, states and surnames but I can’t remember it all well enough and it’s hard to even remember where I heard it.
I’ve looked at a few ancestry programs, but I haven’t seen a feature that allows you to search on location. Also, there’s so much data that can be input, it’s time consuming and intimidating.
I’d like to know if this would work. I could put up an online database with fields for first and last name, birthdate, place of birth, marriage date and location, death date and location. I’m thinking that would be enough information to make all this data intelligible and sift out the migration patterns. What do you all think? If I built it would you all come and input your data?
