Does anyone have information on the Indians that were in this area 1600’s to 1800’s. Or is anyone familiar with Goinstown? The Goins I descend from have been called both Goinstown Indians and Rockingham County Indians.:confused:

Yes, I have seen it but it has been awhile. Thanks for refreshing for me!!! I really feel that it was originally the Saura that they came from, just a gut thing ya know. Linda had had a picture atone time of the Suara woman from the museum and it just connected, I know you know what I am talking about! It is just hard to explain. My mamaws side is the one who said the were blackfoot Indian and from Virginia originally so never made sense. She remembers her great Aunt who wore beads in her hair until the day she died, kinda a spitfire I guess and proud of her heritage even though it was not always a good thing to brag about. O well enough rambling, Thnaks again and have a wonderful holiday season!!!!:p
Hey Melungeon! You are welcome! I have been searching all afternoon for more info on my Harts. Wow, what a hard nut to crack:confused: ! And, I know you know what I’m talking abt, too, huh? I ran across some info a while back too abt Chief Bear Hart. Would love to come up with more on that guy as we could both be his decendents, wow, wouldn’t that be sumthin?!:) Well, back to more searching for the ever illusive Harts. What I have always found interesting is that in my Minor line ( from this area) which married my Goins, Guilford was a name that was used in the family, Rockingham COunty was formed from part of Guilford Co. I always am interested in those names that give a clue to family migrations and origins.

Goinstown is also of interest to me, although there does not apear to be much info about it to find.
You will also find most of your surnames listed in nearby Stokes Co, NC, as well as Patrick and Henry County, VA. The ones I recognize from this area for sure are Goins, Minor, Sizemore, Anderson, Hopkins, Roberts, Blevins, Rogers, and Wallins (Whalen, Walden).
Yes, Goinstown is elusive. It was more of an area, defined by one of the popular family names. This is also home of the Rockingham Indians. My grgrgrgranpaw Hezikiah Minor married Elizabeth Goins, they were from this area. It seems like most of my family migrated from this area, one VA then NC into TN and WV. When their son Zachariah MInor ( m. Aggie Sizemore) moved into Hancock CO he became dubbed a Melungeon with the others, Collins, Goodmans, and others. These same names end up as groups all over even as far as HIghland CO Ohio ( Carmel Indians) . My BLevins and Wallens were the longhunters who early on migrated into what is now TN. I have more than one line of Andersons, and I have not been able to locate one of them past a James Anderson, he is from the same area but have not been able to fine much ( it does not help that that is one of the most common names out here, even among many NA tribes:( ) he is my dead end at this point. I ahve been very luck with the rest due to researchers before me and the loads of info you can find on the longhunters and such. Isn’t interesting how you can go like gangbusters on one line and end up looking at a brick wall on another:D
Have not figured out my Andersons from that area, either.
The names Hezikiah and Zachariah Minor are familiar. Did they live in Henry or Patrick CO, VA?
Don’t yet know whether I descend from Goins, but several relatives married Goins folks. My ggggrandpa’s third wife was Millie Goins, daughter of Stephen. Best I can tell, they were listed as FPC on census in Patrick CO.
