May 24, 2007 at 5:06 pm #26793Linda ,
Thank you so much for your words and you are right i knew when my grandmother was sharing with me over and over the stories were “special” and i did take it to heart! I am encouraged and will continue as time permits. I appreciate the clarification. So tickled she was right on so many accounts including the Iroquoian. That would be grandpa’s line but she put all of them together in her stories. This is part of why i want to make a trip. It has come to life for me here on this forum however to stand in the places will be so fine.
To Beeleaf: I will keep an eye out for your names as i do many from the forum but to date do not have any of your surnames in my linage.

Who were your Owens? I have Owens in my Adkins/Parker line. So that name sticks out.
May 24, 2007 at 5:06 pm #26795Thanks for the help,
As i said i have done very little research on this line as i am starting with what i know and this line did not share a bit. If you have something it would be great. My bet that the women with Mayo, Hook and Caffee are a good posability. So what i have is the geneaology:

The list above quit before my great grandfather:
He was Evan Thomas Owens
Father above
Mother Hester Ann Hook
Her Father HJ Hook (indian trader died in Civil War
Her Mother Orpha Mayo ( I have a photo from 1880?)
I also have the geneology on Mayo, and Hook if they match anything of yours. Bill has them too but not posted.

The trouble with the Iroquois comment is that so many of the tribes were accepted by the Iroquois tribes as they went north. That helps confuse my lines. And then, the tribes mixed as they went north too. The story from my ggggrandmother’s line is Blackfoot, but her step grandson wrote a book describing the Indians where she came from as Cornplanter Seneca. However, a cousin raised among the group in IA remembers words that I found to be Shawnee. This is also a rumor among descendents still in OH. Something I read said that Cornplanter’s reservation in PA held a variety of tribes. This group intermarries with mixed PA groups.
My direct lines from MD were Green, Duncan, Butt, Horner, and Potter. They also intermarried with Willison, Metcalf, Williamson, and Baker, although these people are not in my direct lines. They originate from Charles County; Prince George County; Princess Anne County; and near Baltimore, MD.

When are you comeing my way???? I still have to go to Calif and then on July to Vermont. Hope to be around when you pass through.
Ok i agree because i have seen sings of everything from the eastern tribes that i am just now learning about to Chickasaw for grandpa(Dad’s side) however his lineage may be Nottoway/Sapoi. When they left TN they ran to the Creeks and married there so i suppose all you can say our lines are from all the nations right… will still try to unravel the mystery.
The only name in your lineage i have spotted is Green… see the above posts, note Civil Green. Does that ring a bell???? Good to know what you are looking for and will keep an eye out.

May 24, 2007 at 5:06 pm #26802I did not include all my lines, just those from MD. There is also Sinkey, Huston, and Ralston, although I think that the Ralston line did not become mixed until my Blackfoot ID, Nancy Agnes McLane joined the family. The story in my family is that the Sinkey brings in the NA, while Deb’s family says that the Ralston line brings in the NA. I believe that the Greens and Nancy McLane bring in the NA which would make both stories correct, because the Greens connect with both lines and Nancy’s children marry the Green descendents. And the story is that the Huston line is mixed. Other stories include connections to Tecumseh and Chief Logan.
I am not sure of the date that we will be out there. We are traveling the second to the last week of July, but the hubby plans the trip, and I have not asked for details yet.

May 24, 2007 at 5:06 pm #26818The only connection I find between your Owens and my Owens is that they were both in the same county, Henrico County Va., at one time. Were they related? Well they both share John and William as surnames. If you ever place a Bartholomew Owens, s/o John Owens and Joanne White, husband of Joanna Jones, then they would be related. But I cannot put the two families together, accept for them both being in the same county at one time, and sharing the first names. Still interesting enough for me to note for further research.
May 24, 2007 at 5:06 pm #26819Janette:
The second set of names were from PA, not MD. Sinkey and Huston were in central PA near Huntington. Ralston and McLane were near Pittsburgh. The MD group moved to near Shepherdstown, WV first, then all groups (except Ralston and McLane) move to Licking County, OH. Finally, the entire group ends up in Jackson/Jones County, IA, where I grew up.
