Hello, I am Yosi. I work with a small nonprofit conducting genealogy research for Indigenous artists on our roster. Currently I am researching a family with suspected Haliwa-Saponi heritage and my goal is to help find more information about that connection to be able to share with them. I have searched records such as census, marriage, birth, and death certificates, etc, and I have looked through all of the forum replies on here that I could find related information on, but I am still hitting a wall with this research so I am posting to see if anyone can share any further insights. I greatly appreciate any help you can provide!
The most recent relative is Bernice Wilkins, born 12-3-1932 near Halifax, North Carolina, d. 2016.
>Father: Andrew Wilkins, born 1-10-1910 in North Carolina, d. 1982
>>Paternal Grandfather: Anthony John Wilkins, born abt 1887 near Halifax, North Carolina
>>Paternal Grandmother: Pinkie Gertrude Moore, born abt 1896 near Halifax, North Carolina
>Mother: Fanny Chanie(Chany, Chrie) Mae Ruth Silver, born 2-21-1913 in North Carolina, d. 1987
>>Maternal Grandfather: John Silver Jr, born 7-8-1877 near Halifax, North Carolina, d. 1953
>>Maternal Grandmother: Fannie Richardson, born 5-26-1880 in North Carolina, d. 1961
I am uncertain which of these lineages are the suspected origin(s) of their connection to the Haliwa-Saponi people. I do have more information available for older generations from this family tree that I am happy to share, but to keep it simple, I will just list some of the other names from those older generations instead of arranging them according to their relations (all of the following were born in North Carolina):
Weley W Wilkins b. 1875
Leona Alston b.1875
John Silver b. 1844
Sally Ann”Mittie” Harville (Harvey) b. 1855
James Jim Nick Richardson b. 1850
Sally Silver b. 1856
Hardy Silver b. 1813
Nancy Lynch b. 1813
Thomas “Tom” hardy Harville b. 1805
Mary Alice Silver b. 1827
Nicholas Hyde Richardson Sr. b. 1805
Elizabeth Betsey Richardson b. 1811
John Richardson b. 1825
Eliza Louisa Silver b. 1835
Thank you for taking the time to help uncover their families connection to the Haliwa-Saponi! Please let me know if there is any further information that would be useful for me to provide and I’ll do my best.

YosiSeptember 6, 2025 at 5:10 am #67648Hi Yosi,
You may want to follow up with someone who belongs to the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe in relation to Haliwa-Saponi lineages.
I believe Fannie Richardson b.1880 may be a Richardson/Bass descendant of John Richardson b.1770 and Sarah Bass b.1777.
Some forum topics related to that line:

-MarcSeptember 29, 2025 at 7:26 pm #68814Thanks MarcSnelling, I believe I found what I was looking for after looking at the links you provided. This was very helpful and I appreciate it very much! I wanted to note that the “Evans Family of Halifax, NC” thread only lets me view it on occasion for some reason. Additionally, I had reached out to the Haliwa-Saponi tribe a couple of times via phone and email listed on their website and have not gotten a response.
To summarize my findings for others who may see this thread, I’ve listed the line of parentage I believe I found that traces Fannie Richardson to the Richardson/Bass family and includes earlier generations of John Richardson and Sarah Bass. Suggestions, corrections, and questions are welcome! Birth dates are approx.
