Thanks so much to all of you. Bill has me being a crybaby tonight because he found my family history–and I am overjoyed! All TEARS of JOY!
But I need to thank each of you because each of you had a part in helping me gather this information.
God Bless You All.
Love, Peace, and hopes that you will all find the information that you need to carry on your family tree.
Love,
Alisha
February 16, 2003 at 5:16 pm #16981Bill is WONDERFUL! He found most of my family information–Cordell, Hedgepeth, Blackwell/Blackmon, Sills, and more–even Berry Lucas (who is the great-grandfather of one of my great-grandmothers).
I’m finally able to provide substance to our FAMILY TREE.
Bill: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU…and May God bless you always!
Forever,
Alisha
February 16, 2003 at 5:16 pm #16985I may as well jump in and add my 2 cents worth here also. I grew up in Franklin County (Cedar Rock/Castalia area). All my relatives were in Halifax, Nash, and Warren counties. At least a couple of them are members of the Haliwa Saponi Nation. I knew a lot of the Hedgepeth and Richardson folks. But around that area, Richardson is like Smith or Brown in some areas — it is hard to go any where and not find one. Don’t remember any Sill’s or Cordell’s. I can really relate to the undocumented family history issue, but thanks to folks like Rod and Curtis, I have been able to piece together bits and pieces. I will ask my sister (who still lives in the area) if any of the Hedgebeths are still around.

February 16, 2003 at 5:16 pm #16994Thanks Mack!
I really appreciate your offer to speak to your sister about any Hedgepeths that may still be in the Hollister area.
Thanks to Bill Childs, I know that my Hedgepeth family would be related to the following:
1910 Warren County, NC Census; ED91 Fishing Creek, 4 May 1910
HEDGEPETH:
Hedgepith, L. G (Goodlow), Farmer (53) married once at 24 to Lusind/Lucy (?) wife married at 24.
Children:
·Martha (dau)
·Nancy (dau)
·Annie Bell
Mary (dau)
·Rosana (dau)
·Moses (son)
·Note: Lusind/Lucy had 8 children; however, only 6 were listed on the 1910 Census.
Annie Bell was my paternal grandmother, and she married Lad Cordell. She passed away many years ago…I believe in the early or mid-1970s.
If there are any of my Hedgepeth relatives still in the Hollister area, I would love to meet them!
Thanks bunches,
Alisha
February 16, 2003 at 5:16 pm #17410Hi all,
I have recently found the name of my 4th great grandmother she was rebecca Taylor her mother was Celia Little. Celia mother was Frances Culpepper from Virginia this line leads me to a Mary Richardson born around 1675 in Virginia and a Mary Greene born in Virginia around 1633 can anyone help me out with these ladies…I find their names interesting to say the least since I see these names running all around this forum all the time.
Linda
February 16, 2003 at 5:16 pm #17412I forgot to mention Mary Richardson and Elizabeth Greene were from Lower Norfolk County Virginia which today are the cities of Cheaspeake and Suffolk.

February 16, 2003 at 5:16 pm #24233Hello,
I’m Alisha Cordell, great-grand-daughter of Martha Sill and Sellie Richardson (maternal family) and the grand-daugher of Annabel (Annie Bell) Hedgepeth and Lad Cordell (paternal family).
My parents and grandparents didn’t do a great job of keeping up with our family history, and I’m desperately hoping to find my ancestry. As a small child, I was always told, “We were Indians.” However, my family was not consistent about the tribe. I sometimes heard that we were Cherokee, then Blackfoot, now Haliwa-Saponi. I thought it was a lost cause because I was told that it was nearly impossible to trace Cherokee ancestry.
My mother and grandmother now tell me that my paternal line (Annabel Hedgepeth, who married Lad Cordell) was Haliwa-Saponi and that my maternal line was mixed”
Alisha,
I came across this post recently and noticed the name of Lad CORDELL, and I am wondering if you ever found out anything else about his family?
I ask because I know quite a bit about the family, and if you’re his granddaughter, you and I are cousins. I don’t know if you’re still visiting this site, but I’d be interested in communicating with you further, we have quite a number relatives in common.

February 16, 2003 at 5:16 pm #31952Hello, I’m Alisha Cordell Martinez, the daughter of Alisha Cordell, who previously signed up on the forum to find help finding genealogy relating to several of our family members. I was hoping that with additional information, maybe we could get some more help. My email address in lilalisha02@yahoo.com. She was researching these family members: Lad/ Lazerous Cordell/ Caudle (father: William Henry Cordell (father: John Haywood Cordell, mother: Mary Poly Evans), mother: Julia Ann Mills (father: David Mills, mother: Louisa Spears?); Annie Belle Hedgepeth (father: Goodlow Hedgepeth (father said to be James and mother said to be Lucy), mother: Lusind); Albert Blackman (father: John Blackman (father: Albert Blackwell, mother: Francis?), mother: Bettie Evans (father said to be Ivey and mother said to be Sis Liles); William Sellie Richardson (father: Sampson Richardson, mother: Lucy Allen); Martha Sills (married to Sellie) father: Ed Sills, mother: Lucy Hawkins (father: Joe Hawkins.) This is the most information we have. All family member seem to be from Halifax, Nash, and Warren Counties, North Carolina. If anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated.
Below are estimated dates for some:
Lad: 1887-1964
Julia Ann Mills: 1852-1950 Nash
Goodlow Hedgepeth: 1861-1937 Fishing Creek, Warren Cty
William Sellie Richardson: 1892-1971 Nash
Martha Sills: 1898- 1984
Sampson Richardson: 1870- 1872
Ed Sills: 1853
Lucy Hawkins: 1884-1949, Dunn, Franklin
Albert Blackman: 1918 Nash
Mary Poliy Evans: 1826-1910
