Hello All
Greetings from Kentucky 🙂 My name is Lisa and I am seeking info on the surname Cox, the family in question is said to have gone from North Carolina to Kentucky * Hopkinsville, Christian Co; and then on to Graves County * If there is a website or other such resource that I could access, I would love to hear about it. I am trying to help a lady who is not able to access the internet for long searches. She mentioned that her great grandmother was one Sara Cox Prince, who came to Kentucky with her family. Time frame is about 1800 to 1900.
Thank you for any and all help
😀
July 6, 2006 at 1:37 am #22135This is probably frivolous, but anyway, the extension of South Main St. in Hopkinsville was called Cox Mill Rd. when I lived there (gasp) 52 years ago. I assume it was historic, there wasn’t any mill out that road around 1950. Unless it was over, say, twelve miles out; then it would have been on the Ft. Campbell property, and we kids on bikes wouldn’t have seen it.
Also, there was a Dr. Prince in town. (He was in a clinic with Dr. Cost and Dr. Payne — we always kind of admired the frankness of that combination.)

Seems when I put that letter out last evening I had forgotten to mention that this family was said to be Blackfoot , and I am hoping to find out as much as I can about the people and whether or not they did in fact move en masse perhaps? to kentucky. I thank the person who mentioned the Dr. Prince, as well as Cox Mill Road, now I have something to “chew” on 😀
hoping all have a blessed evening

July 6, 2006 at 1:37 am #22147Hi Lisa, Welcome.
A narrower time frame and/or the names of some of Sara Cox Prince’s children would be helpful in order to locate her. I’m assuming she was Sara Cox who married a Prince? Does the lady you are helping know Mr. Prince’s first name?

I am sorry, I have not yet been told of any other family members. My first order of business is to locate any and all info I can on the Blackfoot in Kentucky from 1800 to 1900, if such a project is possible. I am certain that this lady would like to continue backwards toward her familial lines. Where could I start on this journey? Any directions would be great.
thank you so much for everyones ideas and help

By process of elimination, I found both a COX and a PRINCE family in Graves County, Ky, that fits this Lady’s scenario AND the COX daughter married the PRINCE son; the exception being that they never appear on any Census Record as living in Christian Co., Ky, and only their fathers’ were from NC, which is the reason more personal family info is necessary in order to ‘triangulate’ the proof that these are the same families, although I think they are the same. Alternately, she might provide information on her grandparents’ names which would ‘lock this in or out’.
There are, as in all ‘family stories’, some inconsistencies, due to the length of time that has transpired.
