Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Hello Folks
Always looking for any threads on the Weavers of Rockdale NC (Cleveland County, near Shelby 1900-1935. Later on went down to Georgia and harvested timber and picked goobers for Mr. Carter in Plains Georgia, (yes Mom was a pea picker).
An Uncle was a timber man named Oakley Upton I think Oakley was pretty much a white man, but the Weavers had some mixed blood.
It was not talked about because in the early part of the century in the hills of NC if you were born white I think you pretty much tried to stay that way.
Thanks for listening, always seeking.

Hi Three Crows,
Do you have census records for your Weavers or Uptons, etc.? Or, do you have access to Ancestry.com?
Stacey
Hi Stacey
Sorry for the delayed response, we have been busy Holidaying up here in Yankee land.
There is very little trace or track of these folks remaining. As far as I know there is no one living that remembers any of the history.
What I do know of the Blackfoot connection is word of mouth that was given to me by my Mother when I was a little boy.
I did find old Uncle Oakley’s grave marker on one site. My real interest is to track the Native American blood that no one wanted to talk about for about the last hundred years or so.
Thanks to the internet, I found and joined this web site where I have learned a lot, and am able to pass along to my Daughter who is interested in following the old path.
Thanks for the response hope your Holiday was a good one.
Best Regards
Three Crows
