Hello,
Re: BENGE, GUESS/GUICE/GUISE/GRICE/GRIS/aka GIST, FIELDER, LEWIS, BOWLES
I am researching the lineage of George “Sequoyah” GIST/GUESS/GUICE, Wurteh, John “Trader” BENGE, and the GUICE/GUISE lineage that George “Sequoyah” spelled as GIST and his father, Nathaniel, as well as John “Trader” BENGE, Sr, who Wurteh married after her marriage to Nathaniel GUESS/GUICE/GUISE.
My husband and two sons descend from John “Trader” BENGE and 1st wife, Elizabeth LEWIS, through the FIELDER lineage of 1800’s Oglethorpe County, Georgia that married into BARNETT in Carroll County, Georgia. I descend from another LEWIS branch out of Northumberland County, VA that may connect.
And I descend from GUICE/GUISE/GRICE/GRIS(E) lineage, as well, in North Carolina and just trying to sort through all of it. And I may descend from (Chief) John “The Bowl” BOWL(E)S, Sr./aka DUWALI / aka D’IWALI/ aka BOLD HUNTER, born: abt. 1750 in NC who traveled through the south, (aka known as the “Cherokee Moses,”) and was in Missouri until the Great Earthquake in 1811when he led his people into Arkansas where they stayed until 1819 then going into East Texas where he died during the Battle of Neches on July 16, 1839 in the area now known as Redland(s) between Canton, Van Zandt County and Henderson, Rusk County.
Best Regards,

I have John “Old Trader” Benge b. 1735 in my line also, through his marriage to Elizabeth Lewis. Their son Joseph Benge (b. 1761, Montgomery, VA) married Elizabeth Rollins (b. abt. 1769 Bedford, VA). And their daughter Sarah A. Benge b. 1790 Lee Co VA married Samuel Mark b. 1780 Lee Co VA. Son William E.N. Mark and wife Mary Harper had my gr. gr. grandmother Sara Jane Mark. Sara Jane Mark married Sylvester Thompson and had my gr. grandfather Charles Henry Thompson.
