March 3, 2007 at 11:06 am #25596Hi Bill
There has been some suggestion that either or both William and Mela’s families might have originally come from Md. eastern sure but no confirmation and when Quinnie got Alheizmer’s she would often lock my cousins up in a basement or a room in her house because she thought someone was comming to kidnap them and send them somewhere which sounds like mabe she over heard her parents talking about kidnapping and i know that this happened to some of the children who went to the Indian schools ? hopes this helps
I wonder why they did not list quinnie as mulatto since her parents are not listed as Negro unless they did this because her husband was black?.
Have not been able to find the NDN connection to the Booker line yet
thanks
tia
March 3, 2007 at 11:06 am #25625Hi Bill
I have talked with my father’s family and they keep insisting that Quinnie Pitts father William Pitts was white I haven’t seen what info they have to verify this info but they tell me that Mela was a full blood indian and that she was married First to a Black man and then to my G-grandfather who was white and after he died she lived with another Black man named Johnsonand they had one the youngest daughter .
Mela also had children by her first husband as well.
hopes this helps
thanks a lot

March 3, 2007 at 11:06 am #25627Hi Bill
these people are my grandfather’s cousins
I do know them
also you should know that there are three sets of Bookers all from the same plantation or town in Va. the White Bookers from london , my family who are blood related to the White Bookers although assumed Black originally from london and married into NDN population tribe unknown and another black family owned by the White Bookers who we are not related to by blood .
All three families carry the same surnames and given names espically the men and I have found these people also in Maryland .
Hopes this helps

I have just gottten sightly more info on Mela Pitts
I know that she died around 1926 and am not sure if she had taught before her having children my family does not have any info on this since she died before any of her grandchildren were born (which seems to be a common theme in all of my family lines includilng mine for my mother too has passed and my father has late stage demetia and I am married but yet to have children myself and I still have many years in which to do so)
thanks
