i had wondered why white folks were living on the reservation!
had learned from some indian folks that it is startin to be almost like in the 1800’s when they first took away our land!! white folks are tryin to over take the reservation!
i was very upset & shocked! they already hurt us once…they can leave us alone!!

Could you be a little more specific. I am not familiar with the situation.

which Rez you talkin about? Most rezs have Non-NDNs livin on them. I have been to Ft. Peck Rez and there were wome whites living there then and this was in the mid-1980s. Whites have always lived in NDN communities for ages in OK.
lake andes is in south dakota, i had noticed so many white folks that i started talkin with the native residents & was shocked to discover that whats happenin is the whites are the ones who have control over the reservation!
their the sherriffs, the council, own dang near what few businesses there are, make the rules…laws, they have even set a time when every one is to be off the streets!
if this is our land, i know there are sum set rules, but gee! my opinon, the whitefolks dont have the right to run the whole thing! if that the case than why we on a reservation?

oh! lake andes is a town one of the reservations… it’s in the southern part, about 11/2-2 hours from lennox
Interesting, this is different than the situation on the reservations I’m familliar with in OR, WA, ID, and CA. White folks live on these rezes, as well as asians, hispanics, polynesians, etc. On the rez were I live theres all races, but the rez is run by the tribe, the council is all tribal members, state laws don’t have force, instead tribal laws are followed, the police is tribally run, most businesses are tribally owned, and the tribe is slowly buying back land owned by non-tribal members. On another rez, leases to non-Indians haven’t beeen renewed in order to return the land to tribal control.
