This is one of my ancestors I consider ‘more likely.’ His wife’s name was Mary (Polly), maiden name unknown.
Their daughter, Sarah married a Meeks (Nathan), whose daughter married a Hughes.
This line is one that has the most family NA stories and a couple of interesting pics. (Mary is quite pale and round, her daughter dark, angular and NA looking.)
His few particulars: Died in Lincoln County, TN, ‘around January 1838’ according to a court paper.
Will look and see if I can find anymore that might be useful. This is the main one I got stuck on, when I quit looking for a while back. (No ideas where to look next, especially with a name like Jones.)

(it is so cool to have a bit more on William. I heard anecdotally he was supposed to be born in GA but no hint of where, and not when. This is much closer!)
The connections: Sarah Jones and Nathan Meeks’ daughter, (my gg-grandmother) Mary Ann (b. ~1825, TN), marries Thomas Jefferson Hughes (b. Oct. 30, 1825, Cross Keys, SC) in Tippah Co, MS. (These folks travel a lot and either run into, or follow, Sam Houston to Texas. TJ was a wheelwright among other things, and fixed Houston’s wheel.) Their son, Nathan Emery Hughes (b.10/15/1856, Knobbs, Lee, TX), marries Elizabeth Wimberley on 1/28/1883 in Lee Co. TX. (Can look up her exact birthdate — about 1870.)
The Wimberley side has the Vaughan connection. (As does another of my lines, the Moores, I think, but will have to look it up. Moore and Vaughan and a couple others, such as now, Barbee, show up more than once on different lines.) The Vaughan connection with the Wimberleys is through Elizabeth’s father, my ggg-grandfather, Pleasant Wimberley. (Her mother is Amanda Jackson. I have dates and locations for Pleasant and Amanda on down.)
Pleasant Wimberley’s father is the seriously mystery man of the family (Lots of lookers for lots of years): Zachariah W. Wimberley (b.~1787-1791, around Apex, NC), who marries Quinney Vaughan (says Queney on the 1812 marriage bond and I’ve found about 5 other spellings).
Quinnie or Quina Vaughan’s father is Stephen Vaughan, born 1765 in, I think Hallifax Co. NC. His wife is a mystery woman, Priscilla, who, because of the way Quinney’s story corresponds to the family NDN tale, is the most likely to be NA on that line.
