I have offered to post this on behalf of this writer/researcher:
My name is Terry Miller and I am a researcher and writer. I am under contract with Arcadia Publishing to prepare a pictorial history of Southampton County and I want it to be representative. The book will have approximately 200 photos with explanatory captions. My book will feature people born BEFORE 1920, preferably before 1900. I am writing to ask if you would like for any of your ancestors to be included. To do so:
- The subject must be a Southampton County native or someone who moved to the county and made their livelihood there.
- I scan your original photo(s) on the spot, in your presence. I do not ask to take any items from your possession.
- The photo must be an original, good quality image.
- Interesting faces, expressions, and action shots are the best for this kind of book
- One of the chapters is about work and commerce, so I’m trying to get information on the different types of work people did. So if you have photos of well-digging, logging, brandy making, old school houses, etc, it is all relevant.
- Be able to tell me about the person(s) in the photo: what were their triumphs, their strengths, their unique stories.
I’m trying to capture the lives of everyday people of the past rather than those who have been written about over and over and over again in Southampton County history references. Will you help by picking out something you’d like to showcase from your own family?
If you want your old photographs considered for the book, please do not hesitate. The deadline for inclusion is Sunday, October 19. Call me at 757/537-8194 or email me back at this address: whisperpress@aol.com. It’s not a problem for me to come to you; I live in the Holland section of Suffolk.
Thank you so much and I want to hear from you.
Terry Miller
