Linda, My daughter, a friend of hers and three of my grandchildren will be going past your abode sometime Friday. They are heading to a friends in Flordia. I told my 13 year old granddaughter to mark “Snow Hill” on her map. She has to highlight the route and do several reports on landmarks she sees along the way. Do you know if there is a “Landmark sign” for Fort Christanna? That would make a great history report. They are leaving first thing in the AM and will return the 26 /27.

March 14, 2002 at 1:23 am #4916Yes, there are some interesting signs around Lawrenceville, VA. They’ll need to get off 95 and go west about a half hour’s detour along Highway 58. If they go a tad past Lawrenceville and turn back they will see a sign for “Totero Creek” Then they can get onto “Fort Christanna Highway” turning right (south). There will be several highway markers, and a few miles down the road there will be a sign directing them to the Fort site. There’s a cannon there commemorating the site. If they have time to walk down the dirt road to the river, there is a nice hike, very pretty, and should take you pretty close to where Saponi Town stood.
I’d suggest they look us up, but unfortunately, we’ll likely be passing them on I95 as we make our way up to Richmond to perform with Eastern Bull at the Governor’s conference.
Another great field trip would be to go a bit further west on 58 to Clarksville. (45 minutes?) Just before you get to Clarksville, you’ll reach Occaneechee state park. There is an Occoneeche museum there that is worth seeing. That is very near the spot where Occoneechi, Saponi and Tutelo Island were at the time of the massacre led by Bacon.

March 14, 2002 at 1:23 am #4919Linda,
Heard from the group at 9:45 and they were just crossing the border from Virginia into NC still on Route 95. They plan to stop for the night as they have Sierria, age 14 months and Tyler Justin 5 years and both have enough riding for one day and are letting the others know they are tired

They will get an early start in the AM and get into Orlando in the afternoon.
Good luck on your weekend. Hope you have a great time.
March 14, 2002 at 1:23 am #4920Good Morning: My tribe is on their way home. We just heard from them. They stoped over at the NC/SC border last night and this morning they were almost to the Virginia line. Linda , I told them to yell as they went past..keep your hears open.lol
It will be good to have them home again. Debi had a difficult first two days there as 3 out of the four children ended up in the emergency room sick. Hope she is bring back healthy kids.
