Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Tagged: Jacob M Stewart
Hi,
I’m new to this forum and looking for info. My family is from the Rush and Henry Co. Indiana area. My GGrandfather Jacob M. Stewart was born in Rush Co. in 1864 near the Town of Carthage to Perry and Mary (Skilman) Stewart. I have recently learned of the Beech Settlement near there and I understand Stewart was one of the surnames associated with with it. Can anyone help me with any info at all? I have no Stewart family still living so I have no one to ask. Thanks!
Can you tell us what you’ve learned about the Beech settlement? I haven’t heard of that.
I have considerable information on Watkins, Roberts, Stewarts etc. at the Beech Settlement. Drop me a line at tyaskin@mebtel.net and I’ll be happy to share what I have.
Linda, all I know at this point is the Beech settlement near Carthage IN. was formed by folks thought to be Negros at that time. They were from North Carolina and Viginia they became sucessful farmers and from what I have been told, all has vanished from the site except a chuch and cemetery.
Yes, I remember now. I’ve heard a little about that. It’s a similar story to the Vernon County WI Bass, Stewart, Revels, et al, clan that I learned about this year. (My second cousin is one of those Revels. Another one of those near misses for me.)
Hey Forest, thanks for stopping by and helping out.
Hi Stewart,
I have ALOT of Stewart’s in my family, and Watkins as well. Some are found in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. They originated from the Virgina/Caroina’s. My great uncle remembers my Gr-Uncle named Stewart Brown, his mom,s last name and his was a Brown. I have some pictures of some of these people. Please feel free to send me a email, I will share what info I have. Also, did you know any people named Lett?
