Hi All, Friday nite abt 6:30 we had a bad storm go thru with 65 mph winds with 80mph gusts that was down~right scarey!! I was listening to the weather and trying to get a live radar on the pc when it got real quite~”calm before the storm” then all at once the wind picked up and I was home alone and ran to the basement~the door to the outside blew open and I could see limbs and lawn chairs~etc flying by. We had alot of big limbs down and just today finished picking up the last of them~my husband tied a chain to the bigger ones and dragged them to the brush pile with his 4~wheeler. Boy, it sure gives a person new respect for natures elements. The good news is we had no major damage and no one got hurt ~ thats whats important. I live in nw Indiana so is there anyone else here close to that area that went thru this storm? Blessings~^~Greydove:)
I just got back from Iowa. It is really bad there. I was at a 2 day meeting. Two ladies from about 2 hours away in one of the flooding cities left almost as soon as they got there and took until the next day to get home. A town where I lived for 15 years had the “100 year flood” in ’91, then got the “500 year flood” in ’93, and now must be having the “1000 year flood” as it is worse than the other two. And it keeps raining. They sent m home early in case the Interstate flooded, as they were expecting 4 to 5 inches of rain upriver.
And this on top of the tornadoes a couple of weeks ago. The weather this year had not been kind to the state and area of the state that my Blackfoot ancestor settled in!

Hi All, Thank ya Bee for your concern~it could’ve been alot worse~I thought if straight~line winds can do that much what would a toronado do? Yikes~I don’t want to find out!! Techteach, that sounds really bad~flooding can reek havoc in alot of ways~life endangerment~bacteria~disease (if waters don’t subside soon)~~My prayers go out to all who have lost to these disasters) Take care and Blessings to All~~Greydove~^~:)
Yeah, straight line winds just hit from a different angle.
Neighborhood I lived in Texas had that kind of wind come through. Trees went down like bowling pins, in just about every yard. Wind has amazing power.
Techteach, my heart goes out to the folks in Iowa.
I am glad you are alright, Greydove. We had those straight-line winds in WI when we lived there. Did major damage on the hilltop over our house and shook our house like a train was going over it. Took down a huge pine tree in our back yard but laid it perfectly across the yard, hitting nothing. Last summer, one of those storms took out our electricity. Tore the pole from the house and laid it across our backyard. We still had electricity, but I was deathly afraid of the live wires in our backyard that laid there over a week before they could fix them.
But poor Iowa. Had I not left, I would be stuck there, as they closed I-80. I thought if I had stayed that I would shovel sand, but I had to teach class last night.

The Cedar River in Cedar Rapids crested in ’93 (the 500 year flood) at 19 feet. It is cresting today at 30 feet.
And all the tornado fatalities in the last few weeks. Just tragic!

Thank you Techteach, I am glad you made it back home too ok. We had another storm headed for us yesterday afternoon but we dodged that bullit as it went south of us and only rained and we’ve had plenty of that too, don’t need anymore for now but as you know we get what we get when it comes to the weather. Thanks for the report, Cindy, I was figuring my mom’s birthplace is probably affected. She was born in Viroqua.
And to think there are still those who think the unpredictable weather changes inherent in global warning is still just speculation.
Go to youtube and type in “iowa flood” if you really want to get an idea of what is going on. i just spent the last couple of hours watching videos of my husband’s hometown, Cedar Rapids where many of my family lives, Elkader where my children were born, and Iowa City where I graduated.
