I am looking for links to Blackfoot Cherokee surnames on both sides of my family. ON my Mother’s side: Hughes, Hunter, Mason, Norris,Whitaker.
On Daddy’s side: Hagans, Vinson, Willis, Satterwhite, Powell, Tankersley, Glover, Bynum,Bradbury, Mitchell, Gill, Choate, Cotton, Hughes, Youngblood, Starke.
If anyone has a connection with any of these families, please contact me. Both the Hughes and the Hunters on my mom’s side were said to be Blackfoot. On my Dad’s side, the Kennedy women and the Willis women were said to be. The above families traveled together and married among each other and settled finally in Alabama, Ga and some (Kenada) got on wagon trains with Redbones and other Native Americans and traveled through La and on into Texas, settling where it is now a reservation. Native American history is in every section of my heritage but I can’t prove a danged thing because they were so careful to avoid being found and sent away. Even when sent away, they came back and hid. Now, I can’t find my history. Please help.
January 18, 2010 at 2:57 am #37903Cotton is also one of my lines. Choate/Shoate is a name I know to be Cherokee through a DNA cousin. (A288207 on GedMatch). This is the genealogy posted. James R Choate and Artimissia Choate/Shoate are born in Cherokee and Indian Territory. The birthplace of Bartholomew Co, Indiana is surely an error. However, it is a County a lot of my ancestors ended up, and with a death date of 1834 in Xenia, Catherine Barnes fits the Blackfoot migration pattern. That would make Nancy Meeks Beek Blackfoot and Cherokee.

January 18, 2010 at 2:57 am #37904I don’t see the other surnames you mention connected to this specific line.
The other lines that connect to the first few generations of descendants:
Nancy Meeks Beek married John H Carter (1827 AL – 1884 TX)
their daughter Nancy Jane Carter married Eli Lynn Kay. There are multiple lines going back to Edgefield SC from them. Lettice ‘Letty’ Attaway 1782-185 b Edgefield SC, Willis Morse b 1bt 1775 Granville NC d 1852 Edgefield SC, Sarah ‘Sally’ Trotter b 1785 Bourbon KY, d. 1833 Edgefield SC. Beard, Abbott, Gentry, Cobb, Hatley, Barton and Rochester are other names on this line.
