Macou/Hello Everyone:

I am now able to post about last weekend (I apologize for the delay).

I was only able to make it for the fire and speak to a few people. However, it was very nice. There were many people there of all nations and backgrounds. The town of Ithaca was involved as well as different educational places. I met some good people and made some contacts.

It was there that I stated “openly” about looking into Tutelo ancestry etc.

and a little bit about my story. It was great being there and it was a great feeling. It had been going on for a few year but this was the “official” opening of the park.

It was only a few hours for me but I was not able to go on Sat due to short notice. (knowing about it)

At the fire they had an elder from NY state (Seneca) speak as well as some other people. We all (at the fire) spoke who we were, and walked in a circle and shook hands. VERY good day, nice feeling.

The park is next to private land where some Cayuga villages where. GW burned them in rev. war and took 2 days to burn (due to so many crops and longhouses (not sure number).

The park is just outside Ithaca , near a creek and the main finger lake (about a 5 min drive to).

The fire is in a wooded area and the park starts off as a regular park then branching into trails. I am sorry I don’t have pics but it looks like (I havent seen link yet) some folks have pics.

With next year being 2007 for Jamestown 1607/2007, an idea for a Tutelo Saponi gathering at or around the time of the Native Festival next summer? Or at least have some representation at the Festival?

American Indian Intertribal Cultural Festival

When: July 21-22, 2007

Where: Hampton, Virginia

Virginia Indians tribes will showcase the various cultures of American Indian nations through a three-day American Indian Intertribal Cultural Festival. Focusing on the contributions and cultures of Virginia Indians, the festival will highlight the similarities and differences among Virginia tribes as well as those tribes located in other regions of the country through native foods, dances, traditional stories, arts and crafts, cultural demonstrations and historical information.

Activities will include craft demonstrations, musical performances, storytelling, dancing and native foods. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the histories and distinctive ways of Indian life through exhibits that showcase tribal culture.
