ok go to mapquest. do the Satelite view version.
type in “E rio rd” in albemarle county va.
Now follow E rio rd to you get in between Pen park rd and dunlora dr
Zoom in to the 3rd closest.
Now tell me what exactly are we looking at???? Looks like a indian mound to me….I mean it’s too perfectly made to be a hill…I don’t know…I would like some other people’s idea on this. I found it by going by the descriptions of where the first Saponi location was……..this at the end of the Saponi trail also…..I don’t see any houses at it..and the area looks like it has been cleared out exactly where the mound is. If it’s a mound then it’s a pretty big mound….it would defiently by a Saponi mound too.
April 29, 2008 at 11:17 am #31138I’m thinking a prehistoric baseball field.
April 29, 2008 at 11:17 am #31140It looks pretty cool.
April 29, 2008 at 11:17 am #31141Its something. Not sure what but, it is something.
You should alert the University of VA archeology dept. Maybe if it turns out to be something they will name it after you.
April 29, 2008 at 11:17 am #31150🙂 Well thomas jefferson said there was Saponi indians visiting and mourning a mound on his property…..so he decided to dig at it and he uncovered like 1000 skeletons. That mound is in fact in charloteville Va…which is where this is. It would have to be a big mound to hold 1000 bodies I would think….this may be about the same size.

April 29, 2008 at 11:17 am #31152cool 🙂
he had a huge interest in native american culture and findings in Va.
he was always wanting to learn more about them.
I just emailed the University of VA…..the campus is about 15 minutes from this mound….I’m not sure if it is seen from the street though…looks like trees surrounding the space. I’m not sure what the clearing is for though.

Yup. T.J. and I have a grandmother in common.
Mixed feelings about him, though. Might have been interested in Indians, but didn’t exactly lift a finger to help. Maybe scared of being found out?
;~)
April 29, 2008 at 11:17 am #31164maybe 🙂
I’ve been wondering what happened to all the skelletons he found at the Saponi mound?
