Wal*Mart is a funny store. If you don’t believe me just go in and shop about 3:00a and see how strange it is. Another thing…Huh?…oh!
Ahem, my wife just pointed out to me the Forum Title was meant to say “Know any funny stories?” not “Know any funny stores”
Uh, never mind…
My bad. 😮
April 14, 2008 at 12:26 pm #30443My wife, Kimberly has traced her family back to Chief Powhatan. I know, I know…many people claim that Pocohantas connection. However, my wife is NOT descended from Pocohantas. She is descended from one of Chief Wahunsonacock’s(sp?) other numerous wives.
So,we were shopping in Michaels craft store (oh look, a store story) a few months back and I saw two packages of plastic Indians. One was Plains Indians and the other was Woodland Indians. So we bought them. I opened the package of Woodland Indians and Lo and behold there is Kimberly’s Gxgrandfather Powhatan immortalized in all his plastic glory. Now when we are in the office on the computers or something and she starts fussing or acting up I just wave old Chief Powhatan around in the air and say, “Be careful. Your grandfather is watching!”
It just makes her madder.

April 14, 2008 at 12:26 pm #30452Taking notes.
Wahunsunacock may be one of my grandpas, too. Japasaw (said to be his brother by some, but not others) is my grandfather, according to Patawomeck tribal history. Both the mother and first husband of Pocahontas are said to be Patawomeck. But, Japasaw is supposed to have been the one who helped with her kidnapping (or so some say).
Well, that happened a long time ago, and I was not there to take notes. No need to tax the brain trying to figure it all out. But, where is my plastic Japasaw?
April 14, 2008 at 12:26 pm #30455Nothing is surprising about Wahunsonacock. From what I have read, he took a new or additional wife about every two years. This is one of the ways he kept his Powhatan Confederation together by marrying into the families of the individual tribes and fathering children. Sorry there is no Japasaw figure in the package. If anyone is interested in the figures, here is the list of items in said package:
Wahunsonacock
Powhatan Woman Cooking
Powhatan Woman with Baby
Powhatan Hunter with Bow
Pocahontas (at 11 years old)
Powhatan Warrior with Battle Club
Dugout Canoe
Deer Hide
Deer
Bear
Fox
Fire
