In the true fashion of honoring their ancestors, Becky (Mousini78)and Ken (Dreaminghawk) were united in marriage on Saturday, September 24, 2005 during a double ring ceremony held at the home of the bride in their garden.
Given in marriage by her children, the bride wore an 1860s style ball gown made of peach cotton with a lace overskirt and a peach bodice that laced up the back with lace accented sleeves. The outfit was complete with a matching peach and lace reticule and 6 bone hoop skirt. She wore a peach ribbon choker complete with a butterfly charm that was a gift from her daughters. Her headpiece was a combination of roses that matched her attendants and was accented with blue dragonflies. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies, pink roses, peach lilies, purple lilacs, and ivy.
The groom was dressed in the style of an 1860s country gentleman, grey stripe trousers, gray vest, collarless white shirt, grey frockcoat and grey gentleman’s hat. His escort, Charles (son-in-law of bride), was dressed in a similar vest and trousers to match the time period.
All the wedding party was dressed in similar style. The readers, Jenny and Julianne, daughters of the bride, were also dressed in 1860s style. Juli was dressed in a blue cotton ball gown with a blue choker necklace with a butterfly charm. She carried a nosegay of yellow roses and wore a spray of yellow roses in her hair. Jenny was dressed in a purple silk ball gown with a purple choker necklace with a butterfly charm. She carried a nosegay of burgundy and pink roses and wore a matching spray in her hair. The bride’s escort, Joseph, son of the bride, was dressed in a Confederate Artillery Officer’s uniform.
The ushers, nephews of the bride, were dressed in 1860s Confederate Cavalry uniforms. The guest book attendant, niece of the bride, was dressed in a burgundy ball gown and wore a butterfly necklace, a gift from the bride. The program attendant, niece of the bride, was dressed in a yellow and lace ball gown with a choker necklace.
A garden reception was held following the ceremony at their home. Special guests attending the ceremony were the members of the Person County Historical Society of which the couple are members. There were two special guests, Thunderdancer and Enahdah, who lead the two step to the tune of the Northern Cree. All the members of the wedding party joined in the fun of dancing in hoop skirts to the Northern beat.
The backdrop for the ceremony was a white fence and an arch decorated with ivy, periwinkle, bramble roses that were accented with dragonflies and butterflies. We hope to take the same area that we held the ceremony in and make a circle for our bonding ceremony.

We had fun working in little hints of Native American without totally freaking out some of the family 😉 ……… and we were blatant about our cemetery work. The groom’s cake at the rehearsal was a dirtcake with little tombstones out of white chocolate. There were potted cedar seedlings and periwinkle from family cemeteries all around the area. And dragonflies everywhere you looked 😉
About the ndn hints…….. I wore a handmade knife in fringed sheath on fringed belt (part of Becky’s regallia;-) It was mostly hidden by my frock coat until I took the coat off at the reception.
A little funny bit……. We have a beautiful wedding vase made for us by a powwow vender that we know. We intended it for our bonding but changed our minds when we attended a bonding and discovered that the vase would be smashed at the end of the ceremony. The look on Becky’s face when we realized it would be smashed probably matched mine. We looked at each other and said we gotta have another vase because that work of art and love would not be smashed. Anyhow, our art vase was used in our rose ceremony and will always have a prominent place in our home.

Thanks, guys, for your well wishes. It means a lot to us. And yes, I will forward pics to Linda just as soon as I can…working on serious Indian time here. We are in the process of squeezing two households into one, plus retail holiday season is approaching (I work at Hecht’s on the second shift). And hopefully, I will have our wedding album together by next June for the Annual Campout….now that we found a unique B&B in Clarksville.

Yep, email addys are the same. I plan to send a couple of teaser pics to Linda soon. But, the full album will be available next summer for the Campout…we had over 600 digital pics taken, not to mention the photographer’s. And it will take a while to sort them out…not to mention we are still moving furniture and all…along with real life…and cemeteries.
Congratlations — yall are a great couple. Couldn’t happen to better people.

Thanks, Linda, for your kind words. And thanks to all for your well wishes…that means a lot to us. I have sent the albums to Linda to share however she sees fit. I have a very rudimentary knowledge of doing this all on the net. I was able to upload pics into two albums…and if you want them sent to your email, I will be glad to do that. Hope you all have a happy holiday season…I have to get back to decorating and cleaning….oh, and fixing Ken his biscuits and gravy for breakfast….take care, Becky
