Hello all,
I was just tooling around on Yahoo!, looking around at baby carriers. I just happened to click on this site and was just looking around out of curiosity.
Imagine my surprise when, looking around at the different threads, the family name “Hunt” and “Greensville County” and “Nottoway” and such started coming up!
You see, my maiden name is “Hunt” and while my family is Black, it’s pretty obvious that we are of mixed ancestry. (How often have I heard, ‘I knew you were a Hunt as soon as I saw you!’ from strangers in my hometown) It’s always been talked of among my older relatives that we have some Native ancestry, fairly close in the family tree. I never thought much of it, nor ever did any research of any sort. I was born and raised in Greensville County. I think I’ve heard that “Hunt” is a common family name somewhere in NC , but that’s just what I’ve heard.
I’m always extremely interested in my background (ALL it’s colors, not just red) and just wanted to express my extreme surprise at what I found today.
July 11, 2004 at 9:58 pm #10135Welcome, Nalini’s love, I’m not sure how surfing for baby carriers got you here, but glad you made it anyway. Is that Greensville, VA, you’re talking about. I guess so if you’d from Skippers. I passed there on 58 yesterday.
If there’s Indian blood from that area going back a long ways, you’re like one of us Fort Christanna NDN descendants. Hope to see you around. We’re going to be trying to do more get togethers in the future.

I’ve been here off and on a good while. Good to meet you. I can trace ancestors back as far as SW Va and “possibly” further east, but that is just guessin’. We wound up in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) where we still are.
Altho I don’t know anything about the Hunt’s, I am sure some folks here do. There are good people here. God luck.

July 11, 2004 at 9:58 pm #10185Tom, if you want to know what Fort Christanna looks like, just look at the picture of the woods behind the “Searching for Saponi Town” title. Weren’t you here when we had that thread about my first trip to Fort Christanna? I took video footage, and I had it on tape, the moment my husband said “Saponi town must have been down here,” the image i was recording was EXACTLY like that woods photo I’d been using here for the previous three years!
Then the thread went on, I published a few more pictures and people kept seeing “ghosts” in the grainy still shot taken from the video footage. It got so serious I felt I had to close the thread, if we were really being gifted with such a view, then it didn’t belong out in public.
