So Isabell is after us. My kids can’t believe how much food I bought. They can’t wait to start eating it all. We’ve picked up everything in the yard and dusted off the generator. We’re ready to ride this one out. At this point, it looks like the eye’ll be passing right over us, though, being an hour inland it shouldn’t be too bad, and we’ve got a brand new roof. It’s the flooding that’s worrisome. Greene County, NC was a huge disaster area with Floyd, and all the flooding. So many were homeless. We were above it, though, but I won’t be surprised if we’re in the dark for half a week.
Anyway, it’s time to refer back to our Gaston area (just up the road) Siouan antecedents and what they had to say about all this:
Yep, that’s a hurricane. A whirlwind pattern. I wonder what the one that’s referring to was like? I’ll bet a category 2 tops by the time it got to Gaston.
If I disappear from radar, don’t worry. Likely just a power outage.

I just got through watching our weather report and they said the storm should come on shore about noon tomorrow. I wanted you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and all those in the path of this storm . Here in Massachusetts we are expected just to get some of the high surf, wind and rain. So from Sammy (the kitten) and me we wish you well and please let us hear from you as soon as possible.

Would you believe it? They’re keeping the plant open where my husband works, and everybody’s expected to report to work. Are they nuts?

They’re saying it’s bumped a tad northward and we’ll only get 50-60 mph winds, and not the worst of the rain. Hope that holds.
There are some bright spots. For once, we can turn on the news, national, satellite, whatever, and it’s about us. I did all my laundry, anticipating a power outage, bought enough food for two weeks, did a lot of cooking, so if this things blows over, I’m caught up for awhile.
I just installed my new power backup on my computer, so I can work today till the bitter end.

I’m watching the news here in Ohio, looking at the report it seems that Isabel is slowing up some, I have never experienced a hurricane before, we have had some pretty bad tornado’s in this area. Surely Barry’s employer should not expect folks to come out in this terrible weather? Even Bush hopped a plane and left D.C. My family and I send out prayers to you and all our other cousins for your safety and well being.

We’re all fine. The eye passed 40 miles to the east of us. It’s better being on the west side than the east. We didn’t get winds more than 60 mph. Power went out about 4 pm yesterday, came back on about 4 pm today.
It knocked down a dead tree we were putting off cutting down, nice and clean, right at the base. Most of the yard work is already done, we’re back in business.
No flooding around here, we’re all very relieved.
