Anita,
I also have Smiths and Williamsons. My Greens were in Martinsburg, WV. From there they went to OH. However, the Blackfoot comes from my ggggrandmother in western PA. The WV group seems to have been at least part Shawnee.

This is interesting. I connect with Techteach, she has Meeks connected to her, and you’re connected with Harrises, which is a name I have. Makes you wonder, eh? BTW, the region around Knox County, KY is crawling with Blackfoot ID’s and names some consider to be Saponi. It’s been awhile, but I believe I’ve heard of some families in this locale who did trace back to VA and appear to be connected to Saponi families.
It IS very interesting… I also am a direct descendant of Hiram Meeks who is my gr-great grandfather. and his wife was Elizabeth Wright, and her family came from VA. This is from my dad’s mother’s side of the family
My Harris family comes from Grainger Co., TN and later lived in Knox Co., KY. They were connected to Bryants and Watkins in Knox Co., KY as well, so I may also be Saponi/Blackfoot from the Gibson/bryant/Watkins/Baker/Isaac Harris (my Dad’s Father’s mother’s side of the family), so my dad *may* be more than one-eighth Blackfoot, with *both* sides of his family possibly being Blackfoot. 😀
I wonder if that would make me one-eighth instead of one-sixteenth Blackfoot?
December 7, 2005 at 7:59 pm #21014Anita,
Do you know where in Virginia your Wrights came from?

December 7, 2005 at 7:59 pm #21017Hey Bill!!
My Wrights on my dad’s mother’s side of the family come from Lancaster Co., VA, Westmoreland Co., VA , Louisa Co., VA, and Amherst Co., VA before coming to Wayne Co., KY
Hope you and yours are doing well.

I made a mistake in listing my Greens. Instead of Daniel Greene, from England, the name should be Stephen Greene. OOOpppsssss….

December 7, 2005 at 7:59 pm #21327Thanks Anita,
Wright/Right’s are hard to separate in any one of these county areas but I’ll give it a shot.
There were several different Wright lines in Louisa as well as the neighboring counties so it’s pretty time consuming to ‘vet’ them. Greene’s in those areas like-wise. Hang in there.

December 7, 2005 at 7:59 pm #21361Hey Bill!
I was about halfway through writing my first message and got the brilliant idea to preview my message before finishing writing it – wrong thing to do 😡
I was busy the last couple of weeks, and only got to list Jesse Wright and Doshea Peyton’s 13 kids in my PAF program. Joel S., their youngest child, is my direct link to them. Joel S. had a sister, born Dec. 18, 1800 by the name of Karenhappuck. Come to find it out, Karenhappuck is a variation of Keren-Happuch, third daughter of Job’s new family he had AFTER his affliction (Job 42:14). Keren-Happuch means “Horn of Beauty.” She is Child #9 of Jesse and Doshea.
In a couple of weeks, I should eventually get the children of all up to Isaac, and the three Francises Wrights listed, and even his father, William Beckwith Wright and William’s wife Margaret Puryor/Pryor researched. It would make for a long message, I am sure. I still wonder where the Blackfoot/Saponi connection is at.
December 7, 2005 at 7:59 pm #21362I used to know something about a Francis Wright who was involved in the Indian trade at the head of Chesapeake Bay. Can’t remember enough to be very helpful, but I Googled him and came up with this link:
http://footprints.org/9-100028.htm
The guy who posted that message seems to have changed his email address (and therefore disappeared, for purposes of interaction). But the person who maintains the board also posted a note that names another Francis, and I guess the latter is closer to the area we usually associate with Saponi.
The main message says that the trader Francis Wright (d. about 1674 in what is now Cecil Co. MD) was intestate. But I’d have sworn I looked at a record of his estate settlement, proceeds going to a living brother in Wales. And it told where in Wales. After he died, some of his property devolved to another trader (and, I think mainly, interpreter) called Jacob Young.
I believe there is a relatively recent article by Peter S. Craig about “The two Jacob Youngs,” in some respectable genealogical journal. Peter and I spent several years arguing about his conclusions; but he published his, and I didn’t, so I guess he must be right. Be that as it may, his article may be enlightening about the Cecil Co. Francis Wright too — he tends to be pretty thorough, in a lawyerly sort of way.
December 7, 2005 at 7:59 pm #21364Pappy Dick:
Thank you for posting that article about Francis Wright. I have a Francis Wright that is born around that period – b. around 1660, in Middlesex Co., VA., married to Mary “Ann” Hill, born around 1663 in Lancaster Co., VA. I know the state boundaries changed quite a bit back in those days. He is the first of three Francises in my Wright lineage, and his father is William Beckwith Wright, who married a Margaret Puryor (Pryor?). No dates or places on them – yet.
I did have a list of my Jesse Wright’s 13 children, but it seems my PAF program ate them all up. That is the one thing I HATE 😡 about PAF – hours of research and findings are lost:mad: 😡 That has happened several times, whether I back up my program or not. I always save my findings, but still, they get lost. GRRRRRRRRrrrrrr!!!
Thanks again, for finding the article for me.
December 7, 2005 at 7:59 pm #21373What do you mean by “that” Jenny Wiley? The Jenny Wiley of Jenny Wiley State Park? The one we’re going to for our reunion?
December 7, 2005 at 7:59 pm #21413Yes, THAT one.:) She is my hubby’s 5 or 6x Great Grandmother.
