There are those who think, or anyway once thought, that the (place) name Sandusky in America, notably a city in Ohio, is derived from that of a Polish explorer named Anthony Sadowski. You may read about it/him at this link:
http://www.poles.org/Sadowski.html
I don’t want to join a debate on either the etymology or the genealogy, but this Polish explorer is in more or less the right time and place to be your Hannah’s family. It is anyway a pretty interesting story. He was involved in Indian affairs in central and western Pennsylvania in the 1720s and thereafter — including some references to Shamokin. That place turns up in various threads on this forum.

Thank you for the link…….:)
September 20, 2006 at 10:52 pm #23118Thanks, Pappy, ‘that’ Hannah Sandusky/Sadowski is purported to be the daughter of Andrew Sadowski, and said to have married a Jonathan Wilson in Sussex Co., NJ, and then moved to Lycoming & Columbia Co., Pa.
Debi,
What data do you have linking your Jonathan Wilson/Willson as the son of that particular Josiah Wilson/Willson and Hannah Sandusky?
There are at least 4 Jonathan Wilsons born within a few years of each other that researchers have ‘all tangled up’ and the forementioned Josiah & Hannah Wilson don’t come geographically close to Montgomery Co., Va, where a Jonathan Wilson, is found in 1810 Montgomery Co., Va, along with other Wilson households, and the Pennsylvania Jonathan Wilson, b.abt.1766 NJ, purported son of a Josiah and Hannah, is still in 1850 Penn, while at the same time there is a Jonathan Wilson, b.abt. 1785 Va., lived in 1850 Warren Co., Ky …. I think these must be two different Jonathan Wilsons, but your’s may have a solution.

September 20, 2006 at 10:52 pm #23141What are the dates of the French and Indian War? I’m wondering if that wasn’t a wartime marriage. There was a lot of bloodshed on the Monangehela if I’m remembering correctly. Alos, the Sandusky river is a locale our migrating Eastern Siouan have connections to.
September 20, 2006 at 10:52 pm #23142In North America about 1754 to 1760. Officially ended in Europe by treaty in 1763.
September 20, 2006 at 10:52 pm #23235Bill,
Have you found any information to confirm or debunk this “Josiah – Jonathan Wilson Connection. I agree with you on the “tangled-up” theory. Many times it’s hard to correctly connect people without absolute “proof”. The info I previously posted on them was just what I had received. Still leaves questions though.
Thank you for your time and efforts.
