bloodlines she was born circa 1865 she married Richard Damron
Sr in Lawrence Co KY 1880 Vol. 5a.PG 228 i been trying to find
out were she was born and who her father and mother were.
December 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #18160I am related to castles from lawrence county ky.my moms moms first cousin was Tony Castle from lawrence county.I dont normally research cousins just grandparents but i do have a picture of Tony if you”d like it.He looks straight up Injun to me.The family always thought he had Italian in him but their were no Italians in that area of KY back in the 30″s to my knowledge.I have many other names from that area that are my kin that have family stories of Indian blood and it seems to show in the girls more then boys.many dark haired dark eyed girls with jigh cheek bones.most boys tend to look more white.wonder why that is?

December 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #18169Cowboy,
The 1880 Lawrence Co Ky census for Peach Orchard District, lists Margaret as 15, born Ky; father born Va; mother born Ky.
Richard is 20, born Ky; father born Va; mother born Ky.
On the 1900 Lawrence census, Richard Damron is listed as born Oct 1861; “Margarette”, b. June 1863. On this census, both of them as well as both sets of parents are listed as born Ky.
I did not ‘definitely’ find Margaret in 1870, but she may be the Anna Castle, 4, dau of Marcum and Catharine Castle, in next door Johnson Co., Hoods Fork, Ky. I won’t hang my hat on that altho I didn’t find any other Margaret ‘spelling’ variations that ‘fit’.

December 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #18174Let’s look this over begining with the Damron/Dameron’s ….
Richard Dameron/Damron was born Johnson Co., Ky, son of Samuel Dameron/Damron, b. 1822 Cabell Co., Va;
m’d 13 Aug 1850 Johnson Co., Ky :
Mary Mollet/Mullett, b. abt. 1837 Johnson Co., Ky
dau of David Mollet and Susan Damron.
The 1870 Johnson Co., Ky census (P.O. Paintsville) generally backs this up, listing Richard, 10, b.Ky, in the household of Samuel (37, b.Va) and Mary (28, b.Ky) Dameron.
From “One World Tree”
Richard Dameron (son of “Samuel Dameron & Mary Mollet”)
b. 23 Nov 1859 Johnson Co., Ky
d. 1934 White Oak, Ok.
m’d 1880 Lawrence Co., Ky
Margaret Ann Cassell/Castle
b. 1864/5 Johnson Co., Ky
d. 1940 White Oak, Ok.
children ( * = found on 1900 Lawrence Co., Ky Census in household of Richard & “Margarette” Damron):
Jessie Damron
Charles Damron
Amy Damron, b. 1884 Lawrence Co., Ky.
Jennie Damron, b. 13 Oct 1886 (ditto) *
John Walter Damron, b. 4 Oct 1887 (ditto) *
Samuel Damron, b. 1893 Ky *
Albert Damron, b. 10 Aug 1893 Lawrence Co., Ky *
Richard Clayton Damron, b. 1899 (ditto) *
………………………
If these are yours, “Anna” Castle lived in the same general area as Richard Dameron in 1870s.
To be absolutely clear. There is no Margaret Castle in Lawrence or the surrounding counties on the 1870 census. The only “Ann” Castle within any reasonable age range of Margaret A. Castle, is the previously cited “Anna” Castle of Johnson Co., Ky.
Bill
p.s…. Paintsville was considered part of the Salyersville Indian community.

Marcum Castle (d. 7 Jan 1914 Johnson Co., Ky) and Catherine appear to have stayed in Johnson Co.

December 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #27211I just noticed this older posting and wanted to add that I have some info on another “possible” Margaret Castle that by dates is a close “fit” and by birth location, right on the “mark”….here is what I show:
There is a Jacob Castle (b: 1842 Russell Co, VA, d: 1927 Russell Co, VA) who MD: Lydia O. Buckles (b: UNK in TN, DOD UNK)…they had 6 known CH, including a daughter named Margaret Ellen, called “Maggie” (b: Jun 1869 Russell Co, VA)….I have NO marital data for this Margaret but show her in 1870 with her parents as such:
Source: 1870 Russell Co., VA Census, Lebanon-Copper Creek District, Household #168
Castle Jacob 26
Lida 29
Mary 9
Martha 5
William 3
Margaret 1
NOTE: Mary was a daughter of Lida’s first marriage
———————————————————
In 1880 she is with her parents as such:
1880 Russell Co., VA Census, Lebanon-Copper Creek District, Household # 238
Castle Jacob 38
Lydia O 40
Martha F 14
William T. 12
Margaret T. 10
Sarah B. 8
Edward B. 6
Charles B. 4.
====================================================
Again, not certain if this might be teh Margaret that MD the Damron fellow…just tossing it out there as possible data. Blessings~~~~~~Laurie
P.S. This is indeed the line of Castle/Cassel/Kassel’s that descend from Jacob “White Tassel” Castle and one of his numerous wives, in this line’s case, Sowege aka “Gilding Swan” who was Shawnee by way of tribal ancestry.
December 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #27212And later to the Casteel/Steele families in W.V. Same lines back to Sowege.
December 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #27222Thanks Laurie for your post that could be a match i guess i like to see what Bill thinks about that.
Richard and Margaret Castle Damron are my ggrandparents i would like to know for sure who she was.

December 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #27224Damron, Ratcliff, Castle/Casteel/Steel, Marcum, and Johnson are all Wayne Co. W.V. names. Alot of them came from the Lawrence Co. Kentucky area. A few found to be married…Samuel Damron & Sarah Ratcliff, John Damron & Elizabeth Marcum… for example. Quite a few Wayne County descendants from those lines.
However, I can find no link to Blackfoot. However I find them all connecting to Shawnee or married into those of Shawnee descent.
December 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #27228Cowboy….thank you for replying to my reply…by all means check out all possibilities….In reading your above post about the Margaret that was the daughter of Silas Castle and his wife Elizabeth nee McNutt…allow me to add that both of that Margaret’s parents were born in Russell Co, VA…most of this Margaret’s siblings were born in a place called Copper Creek, Russell Co, VA….I show that Margaret as being born in 1867 in an UNK location (most likely VA) and having died in 1912….I do not have a MG date for her but show her spouse as a fellow named George Cowan Meade (1872-1907). Perhaps by ellimination you can ultimately determine which or who’s Margaret Castle is your ancestor. Best~~~Laurie
December 15, 2005 at 7:00 pm #27245Samuel came with his father and brothers from Virginia to the Big Sandy area in 1805. They settled near Piketown (Pikeville), Kentucky. He married Sally Ratliff when he was 21 years old and, in 1819, moved from Pike County to his own farm. He returned to Pike County in 1828 and settled on Brushy Fork of John’s Creek where he lived until 1834. He then moved back to the left fork of Twelve Pole at the mouth of McComas Creek where he was to live the rest of his life and was to be buried. Samuel had several children with Sarah Smith while he was married to his first wife. It seems that most of them used the name Smith although some of the younger ones seems to have used Damron. He married Sarah Smith in 1866 well after all of their children had been born. During the Civil War, two of his sons, Silas and George W., were in the Army of the Confederacy. Three sons, John B., Samuel and James, were in the Union Army. James died in service. A son-in-law James Maynard was also killed. When Samuel first came to what was later to become Grant District, he moved into a “rock house prepared by the Lord.” (Was this a cave?) “His wife was not satisfied with the accommodations and in 1834 he built a cabin.” He still in that cabin in 1884. “He was commissioner of revenue two years.” At age 87, he was living with his daughter, Mahala, and son-in-law, Thomas Kirk, when the 1880 census was taken.
