I just today was online…web surfing with my teenager and we wound up at this place called “You Tube”…it is a site where your average (or not so average) person can put online, for anyone or everyone else to see a short Video that you took etc….an interesting yet oft perverse notion but nonetheless I thought it was innovative if not a bit interesting….so I did a “search” and came across the most amazing, eery, slap-me-upside-the-face video…so….turn on your sound, sit in silence and just watch and listen and read….it is amazing and sooooo very poignant….I will not “spoil the broth” just yet but once you see it please….post a reply here to me….tell me what you thought, felt, noticed, believe…..I am still shaking from the experience of it as it hits me so very close to home. Blessings to all~~~Laurie
P.S. it is NOT in the least pornographic or obscene, rest assured it is safe for even a child to view.

I saw this a week or so ago, do you know who made it? If I remember the video was made in Ohio?

February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24734Shirley…I emailed the owner of the video…and yes, it was definately taken in Ohio. Impressions? Opinions? Thank you for viewing. Take care~~~Laurie
February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24736I really enjoyed that video. Thanks for letting me know of it.
What did I think? ………I think that most of us find it familiar.
Especially the part where you aren’t supposed to exist, whether its anymore, or ever at all.
I like this T shirt that I saw at the pow wow when I visited Linda…”49,000 years and still here”.

Laurie,
It reminds a lot of my family as they still live this way; they are a prideful, recluse and enjoy life, simply.:) I’d like to join them, my life is far too busy.

February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24764Hey I just read the text but the first head stone shown is the name of one of my ancestors, it’s not her but they did have the same name.
The girl at the front of the grave, looks so much like several members of my family, she could be the one we call “Buckskin Baby Doll”!
February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24767Thank you for the reply Tom…I have in my tree traced teh 2 headstoen names I could discriminate in the video: Faye Nichols & Susan West….I am still waiting to hear back from the video taker/owner and hope to trek there myself this coming weekend or next. My gut tells me that based on where Susan West resided earlier (Clinton Co, OH) and then migrated to later (Paint Twp, Highland Co, OH) and too where Faye Nichols was reported to have deceased (Pike County, OH) that the mention of being “near Serpent Mound” is most telling…per her death certificate and obit, Faye was buried in the Washburn Cemetery in Pike Co, OH…named after John Collins Washburn. The only listing I could locate for that cemetery listed the following as being interred there:
Washburn Cemetery
Mifflin Township, Pike County OH
This cemetery is in active use, maintained by the Mifflin Township Trustees;
located west of Byington, Ohio on State Rt. 124, off the main road to the
left at the Cemetery sign. The cemetery named for the John Collins Washburn
family, and is located on or near the homestead of his wife’s family, Elvira
Elliott (her father, Burgess Elliott, died in 1846) .
Transcribed 09 Sept. 1988 with additions in 1992.

Now, Caplinger was Faye’s maiden name and yes a few Caplinger’s are listed but she is not in this listing, nor are any other Nichols folks nor any Wests too. So perhaps Faye was removed to another location, namely the unidentified one in the picture which appears to be in Ohio and “near teh Serpent Mound” area…which IS in fact near Mifflin Twp in Pike County. Hmmmm…any other ideas as to attempting to locate this ellusive video captured cemetery? Far more interesting and eery to me was the photographs on teh trees…outlined in that red border and all bearing that same “symbol” that the very last frame of the video shows…what is that all about? The pics look old and weather worn…as if they have been there for awhile…could they have been placed there by the video recordee? …and were just made to look old….or was the red border and symbol simply pasted on each one to provoke the viewer to look more closely at them? The by far most shocking picture shown was that of the hand…eery even…I initially asked: geez, whya HAND when all of the other pics are of people…with faces? It then came to me that it was more liek an X-ray….and yes….the pic of the hand is of a 6 fingered hand!!! That did NOT fail to catch my eye immediately because….I was told a story abotu 2 years ago from my cousin Don, who lives in Lima, Allen Co, OH nearby….he told me that which no one else ever chose or bothered to mention to me about some of my Nichols ancestors and that is this: there was in our Nichols family one father and mother who had numerous children and of those children, 4 were born with 6 fingers on each hand…they also had an extra baby toe apparently…I chose not to name them here out of respect for their direct descendants but suffice it to say that they did reside here in OH and their “anomaly” is not exactly what I would call “commonplace”…especially not during their particular birth time frame….this was not at a time when , for example, Thalidamide was in use and caused extremity malformations. Needless to say, for me, seeing a Nichosl headstone, the hand anomaly pic and hearing it was nr. the Sepent Mound area peeked my personal interest…and I hope the vid owner will get back with me so that I too can go and visit and record all of the family headstones. I have my own “inkling” as to who teh “Raven Haired girl” is…I have seen her before in family pics and I’m quite certain that her family simply wishes that she remain anonymous…if she is who I believe she is then yes, she is indeed a prime example of how very strikingly NA her grandpa looked too…he was as handsome as she is gorgeous. As a footnote…I have personally visited the majority of the cemeteries in and around Highland County…but of those near Mifflin Twp…I have only yet visited 2…and neither one is the one in the video. Any further ponderings or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks bunches for the read….blessings to all~~~Laurie

February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24773An interesting video. My thought was that it was probably somewhere around Highland Co., Ohio, but it is not one I’ve personally visited.
February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24780Interesting indeed….Highland Co was also my initial thought and who knows maybe it was shot there after all? Hopefully the email contact will reply to me soon. *fingers crossed* I do know too though that many of my kinfolk left Highland and went further North to Pike and Hardin Counties and like I mentioned, the Mifflin Twp area is where the Serpent Mound area is located. Blessings ~~~ Laurie
February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24786Google Earth can be a great tool for locating cemeteries.
The software is free to download, but you must have high speed internet. I use it at work a lot, so I downloaded it there because I didn’t have high speed internet at home yet. There is a toggle for cemeteries and churches, and when you zoom into an area, every cemetery will light up with an icon.
February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24787I found the video to be very spooky yet compelling.
February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24790Thanks for the google heads-up Rock….will have hubby try that.
I agree Scott…that was indeed an eery look at the past and present all in one vid.
Take care fellas~~~Laurie
February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24794Whoa folks….I re-watched the video “Lost” and confirmed that the 1 shown stone is in fact that of Faye (Caplinger) Nichols…she being the d/o Quinton Glen Caplinger & Nellie May Gibson….her maternal grandparents were: Thomas S. Gibson & Rachel Dean Nichols. Faye MD 3X: 1. Logan Nichols (s/o: Valentine “Tiney” Nichols & Amanda Jane Perkins); 2. Hurley Gibson (s/o: Allen Gibson & Oma Nichols) ; 3. Role Nichols (s/o: Logan Nichols & Mary Belle Perkins). The “good news” in confirming it is her headstone is that I can now go visit myself knowing where she is buried…in the aforementioned Washburn Cemetery nr. Byington, here in OH. Why Faye and some of the others (West’s) are not recorded as beign buried there is beyond me but by far teh most eery thing now is that when I finished watching the video I went to the website the vid owner mentioned and Oh Goodness…I’m kind of speechless…just go view and read it all for yourself….and you too will know what I mean. The URL for further info is as follows:
http://www.terrestrialparadise.com/
The link shows alot about th eserpent mound and also mentions soem family names such as the “Black Jacksons” and teh West’s too…it is a lesson in history about the mound and the “symbol” that you saw on the video is a reappareing one. Very weird. I hope to be able to go this weekend but this beyond cold spell we are having may waylay it for a week or so….we’ll see…I definately will go with an escort *shivers*. Lemme know what you make of all of this…and too, what is the connection to this mound and cemetery and such. Take great care…chat anon~~~Laurie
February 7, 2007 at 11:41 pm #24795Heh!
I spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out where “Massie County, Kentucky” was, with it’s concentration of “white mulattos” in the 1870 census, before I reread it and realized it was a fictional work. I need to start wearing my glasses when I do this sort of stuff….
