They set my house today! It was a surprise. It’s all mud down there by the basement and I was thinking we’d have to wait till the ground froze before it would be solid enough to bring in a huge crane.
They delivered the house last week. The big semi’s wouldn’t make it down the windy road through the woods, so they left the sections at the entrance to the subdivision. Two days later was the annual homeowners meeting and my two house halves were the #1 topic of conversation. As in, “What is that tacky mess doing at the entrance?” (It’s a modular, but at this point, it looks like a double wide.) This embarrased the president of the association, since it made him look like he wasn’t doing his job, so he’s been harrassing my builder all week, who’s been harrasing the contractor.
Maybe that’s what saved me. He brought the crane in, it left tracks about a foot deep, but she held and the two halves are now a roofless whole sitting on my basement. The basement is completely out of the ground on two sides, so from the back it’s a two story house.
I have a house! I have a house! Maybe someday soon I’ll even have a viable internet connection and I can start posting regularly again.
I have a house!
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11106Linda,
Congrats!! I’m very happy for you.:D
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11111Dear Linda,
Please let us know if any progress is being made on the home. I really miss you here on the forum and know the others feel the same.
Winter is just around the corner here in New England. The leaves have turned and are falling. I can’t say we had much of a spring and summer only 1 day did it reach 90 degrees. Not our usual weather at all. I don’t know if that means we are going to get buried with snow and cold this winter but have come to expect anything with all these storms raging.
I hope and pray that you and the children are warm, safe, and reasonabley content as I know moving is unsettling but you are a strong woman and I know you are a survivor. Take care.
Brenda
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11125Thanks for the kind words. I miss you all too. I’m here at the library while my kids play at the Y. I’m safe and sound in a nice little apt. We’re all a bit cramped, but in the end it will probably just bring us closer, if the kids don’t kill each other first! At least it’s easier to keep track of who just left a trail of dirty clothes or candy wrappers in time to get after them for it.
I can still only stay online at home for five or ten minutes, and can rarely do much surfing. The house is coming along. They put the roof on this week. It’s starting to rain again, so more delays. If we could just get a sound driveway in we’d be so much better off.
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11128Hoo-rah! The house is on the way! Hang in there! (as I know you will.)

October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11142Linda we’ve come along way since the days of bark and skin houses not to mention the log thing. Hang in there , you’re all safe and sound healthy and happy, yes spats are always a good indicater of happy times.
I once thought that an old Canadiana style house would be nice the ombiance incredible, Victorian enlightening and French Provincial so cozy, now days it’s that Sanford and Son image, but all is well when ends well.
Hang in there as Bill and the Gang say, you know you have our blessings, FOR SURE!
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11145AMEN! And kiss the kids for us. Love & Light, Lynella.:D
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11368Linda,
How’s the house coming along?
Bill
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11374Yes. How is it? I hope all is going smoothly and you’re as giddy as I was with my first new house. So much excitement! And nesting! All that decorating and making things just the way you want them for your family. I miss those days. Let us know. Love & Light, Lynella.
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11377Well, the house is set, but they haven’t finished shingling it and it’s started leaking in one of the rooms. I’ve called my attorney and the loan officer into it and gotten the attention of the builders. My first rep quit two weeks ago, and the second quit this week. The contractor waited three weeks to be paid $6K he had spent out of pocket for the setting of the house. We were worried the builders were going bankrupt. The loan officer said not to worry, if that happened, they would fund the completion and their attorneys would go after the bankruptcy. It would not affect the project.
My friend spread some gravel called “crush and run,” which means the site is not a solid mud wrestling pit anymore, there’s actually a drive and a sidewalk. The roofers promised to come the last two days and finish shingling, but never showed, so I’m thinking tomorrow will be the charm.
Slowly, but surely, we move onward and upward.
My internet works fairly normally, except Outlook Express is malfunctioning. It’s hard for me to keep up with email. If anybody’s written me and I haven’t responded, please try again. I may not have received it.
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11381I am so glad you got the crush & run. All that mud hassle is the pits! It sounds like you’ve really had your share of troubles with this. It will be so wonderful when it’s done. I’ve done shingles. If I was there, I’d get up there and do it for you. I hope we can see a photo when it’s all finished. I am excited for you! Lynella.:D
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11391Well, the roofers came, 15 of them and were making short work of it till they ran out of shingles. I mean, this is a modular, it’s not like it’s the first time the manufacturer has put together the buidling materials for this model. How could they run short on shingles?
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11394Yeah! What’s up wit’ dat’? Lynella.
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11473Hey Linda let me know or US know when you’ll be in your new home, Iam still working on baskets when I get time and have the base weave done on the one for you.
I’ll send it on to you when you are in your new home. Hang in there.
October 2, 2004 at 3:57 am #11481I met with the lady from the dealership today. We did a walk through and made a list of all the things the contractor has to do by the end of the month — or else. We’re both getting attorneys into the mix, so one way or another things have to start happening. Once you get a crew in there to do a job it goes really quick. But that’s the trick, getting them in there.
