Sue,
Every single name on my mother’s side goes back to southern Virginia too. My father’s family is hard to trace as far as we can tell they have always been in North Carolina except for the Little’s who came out of North Georgia. We have Mom’s side all the way back to Jamestown and England, Scotland and Wales. But Dad’s we can’t get the paper trail pass 1790’s. I think the problem there is they probably came out of New England and we just haven’t found the connection on paper that is DNA connected us to the New England group.

Those Butt locations are interesting, considering that some of my family may have come from PA and gone to Amelia county, VA. Not sure though; the names and locations are the same but no there is no proof of relationship. But Brenda, Bess and I were messing with emigration routes from MD to VA. Some went south; mine went north and west.

Where did you leave off with your father’s side? Specifics? Someone could have a lead at anytime, you never know.
I have spent all of this insane amount of time working on my father’s side and have barely touched the surface of my mothers. She was a Leonard. Just recently I find they were here earlier than I would’ve imagined..and in New York. And in Kenosha Wisconsin which I had no idea. Just starting on my mom’s and saw a picture of my grandfather for the first time. Never met him. Kind of “dark” Irish looking. Amazing. Saj
October 1, 2005 at 7:51 pm #17067Well Samuel Little was born in Georgia in 1795 according to his gravesite and it is still well tended. He is buried in Winterville, North Carolina. I know Enoch Davenport was born in Hyde county North Carolina about 1795 he married a Rollins. That is the earliest I have found. We know this about Enoch because he left a will. On my mother’s side they make it easy LOL like the ancestors wanted us to know for example my great grandmother went by the name Nancy Moore Pridgen, my grandmother Katie Pridgen Rogers, my mother Willie Rogers Davenport and my self Linda Davenport Keller. We make easy to figure out our surnames.

October 1, 2005 at 7:51 pm #18282Well we have linked our Little to the group that came into Savannah, Ga in 1742. They were the last of my family lines to come to AMerica. The came from Ulster, ireland but before that were part of the border Scots (border of England and Scotland).
I don’t think there is any NA there. This is my father’s family. Enoch Davenport was my gggrandfather from my dad’s lines to he was from Hyde County, NC. near Alligator River. Close to were they have found remnants of what they believe were the Lost Colony and the Croatan Indians. My father grew up about 10 miles from were they believe the migration pattern took the families that could pass for white. Although I have found no solid proof they were part of all of this I would not doubt it. Although I cannot trace the paper trail our Y Dna has shown we come from the Cheshire, England Davenports. Richard Davenport landed on the northeastern North Carolina shores in the late 1600’s. My ggrandfather Randal Clayton Davenport (Randal is a family name out of Cheshire England) was in Pitt County NC looking for work in the mid 1800’s they say he appeared out of nowhere. We were fortunate enough to locate the will of Enoch Davenport confirming our suspicions that he was Randal’s father. For the most part I believe my father was white perhaps carried 1% NA. The Bromwell-Davenports of Capesthrone in England have done DNA tests confirming we also descend from this group but wehave no idea which line but we all know we are family. When Lord Bromwell-Davenport learned this he sent a hearty hello to all his American kinfolk. He has made us proud of our English roots he is a highly decorated vetern and a man of great honor in English society. This forum is not realy the place to discuss my Dad’s familly but I wanted to tell you that we have learned more about them.

October 1, 2005 at 7:51 pm #18434I’ve got a Stephen Vaughan born in that county in 1765. Don’t know if the William on the list is any relation. Was told there are Greens related to that line and probably Birds. My line goes to Wake Co. by 1790, I think. (And there are some connections in Bertie, I’m told.)
Looking for antecendents or relations of a Joel Bird, probably born about 1788, who shows up as helping to put up a marriage bond in Raleigh in 1812.
(There is a Stephen Vaughan with FPCs in his household that Bill told me about — 1830 census, in Wake Co, but don’t know that it’s the right Vaughans. Tried to talk my sister into doing the organizing part of the research, but no go!)
October 1, 2005 at 7:51 pm #18750Hi Everyone,
Bill, Martin Co was Halifax Co at one time and then the area was split to form Martin Co. Martin Co is across the river from Bertie. That is where my Tuscarora family is located. You cross over a bridge from Martin Co and you are in Bertie.
