Hello. What a great site! I have two Saponi families in my background. I descend from the Guy family as well as the Jones family. My great-great grandparents were William Braddick Jones (son of Harvey Jones and Martha Rosser Jones) and Mary Jane Guy Jones (daughter of Thomas Guy and Adaline Burnett, granddaughter of Vines Guy and Elizabeth Jefferies). They are part of the group that left Virginia/North Carolina for Greene County, Ohio. If anyone has any information about Harvey (or Harbert) Jones and his ancestors or the ancestors of Thomas Guy, I would love to hear from you. I have a wonderful cousin who has done a tremendous amount of research on these families, trying to tie everyone together and I would be happy to put her in touch with any interested researchers.

October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #11116Hi Beth,
I’m on my way out of town for a couple days, but when I get back I may be able to help.
Briefly,
We believe Vines Guy’s parents to have been William Guy and Abigail Chavers (Chavis). Vines married Elizabeth Jeffries, and they both lived in what is now Alamance Co., NC
More later.

October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #11117I also have Thomas Guy’s military record, if you don’t already have it.
October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #11122Thanks for posting, Beth, and welcome. I’m sure we’ll all be interested to learn more about your families. Tasheaka may be kin. Has anybody heard from her recently? I need to drop her a line. I’ve heard a lot about your community in Ohio, the Occaneechi in Hillsborough talk about you all a lot, Forest is their tribal historian.
October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #11212Hi Beth,
I also decend from the Guy family. Starting with Jesse Guy
and Elizabeth Merritt. Their son Daniel N. Guy and Mary Ann Foster. Their daughter Magnetta (Maggie) Guy who married John
O. Green was my ggrandparents. If anyone out there can fill me
in on a little more history of the Guy family of Macon County, NC.
I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,
Patt

October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #12761Hi Beth,
I have some of our line posted in the “Share Genealogy” section at:
http://www.saponitown.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1045
I still owe you some death records. I haven’t forgotten. I’ve been busy looking up some more things. I am wondering if Harvey Sr.’s mother isn’t a Jeffries. There was a Harbert Jeffries from the Greensville County, Virginia area. He spent some time in Greene County, Ohio before going on to Whitley County, Indiana. Anyway, Harbert had a son Mortimer (who was involved in some court cases in Whitley Co., IN) who had two sons named Harbert and Leander. Now, I don’t know if Harbert and Leander are family names or just pure coincidence. My other thought was that there was a “notable” person named “Harbert Leander”, but if there was, I haven’t been able to find him.

October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #12766Go to the geneology section and look at Jennings family, Va.
I have Guy, Jones, Williams and Epes.
Any connections?
October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #12821Felicia better get her butt on over here. Guy’s are coming in left and right from all over. Her’s never budged.
October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #12893Hi Julie. I read through the thread you mentioned. My Jones lines are the same as Stacey’s. In fact, she is the fantastic cousin I mentioned who is a researching machine! Can you give me some more detail about the Guys you are related to? I didn’t see them mentioned in that thread.

October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #12894Beth,
I have a marriage certificate for Robert Jennings and Elizia Jane Guy of Nottoway County, Va. on July 12, 1885. They listed as colored.
Roberts parents are: Richard and Sally Jan Jennings.
Eliza’s father is listed as Wm. Davis (?)

Paul Heinegg did some very good research and he has much to say about Chavis, Guy…well, let’s just say many family names found here…I think one aught to take the time to really study them…now that school is done…I may have time:)

Hi Shirley,
What are you planning to study about them? I could help some as time permits, or even look into a separate line. I am mostly intested in the families that moved from Greenville Co., VA to Greene Co., OH; specifically, the Jones, Guy, and Jeffries. I think my Harvey/Harbert Jones that is brickwall may have had a Jeffries parent. There are just way too many coincidental names and locations.

October 12, 2004 at 11:40 pm #35599I would like Thomas Guy’s mil record. ALso, is there any docs about William Guy, Vine’s father, being in the revolutionary war? DAR doesn’t have him (William Guy) that I can find?
