Bringing this forward for those attending this weekend. Hotel information update: Host Hotel is Super 8, 6204 Ramada Dr., Clemmons, NC. 336-778-0931. But I hear they may have booked all their rooms except the suites.
Another hotel listed is Village Inn, 336-714-0172 and ask for Lana. There is a RV campground in Tanglewood Park. Check online at http://www.campingfriend.com/TanglewoodPark/ for further information. Anyone who may be interested, since King has been cancelled; there is going to be a Pow Wow in Concrd NC. This will be held at the Frank Liskes Park, on the 19th and 20th of August. All Dancers must register upon entering the Park. There is Camping areas, Bath Houses, there will be food, vendors, meals for Dancers. There is going to be demonstrations with different types of crafts. Everyone is invited. Anyone interested,in going to this Pow Wow, Set up for ones wanting to camp will begin on Friday Morning the 19th. As soon as I can get more information on this one I will post it.

There are several hotels and motels in the area. We have stayed at Dare Haven and it’s a nice quaint place. And I think the drums stay at the Elizabethan Inn. I have included the link for all the motels on the island. You can call them and see what is available or contact Chief Marilyn Morrison directly from the link on the powwow listing. We have tent camped there as well. There is a bathroom/picnic area/swimming area just around the corner from the powwow grounds, within easy walking distance. Hope you have a good time there. Sorry we will miss it this year due to family obligations.

Good morning to all….just returned from Frank Liske Powwow….had a really good time camping with Rick Cassidy and his lovely wife. It was good to see some of our friends. And it was good to learn more about gourd dancing…I had never seen it before. This powwow was Oklahoma style with the drum set up in the circle. There was even a crazy auction after the powwow on Saturday…and Ken found a Momma Bear for my upcoming birthday…LOL. Even though the powwow was small, the spirit was there. Thanks Rick for setting everything up for us and for such a wonderful weekend!! And tell Janice that we are looking forward to seeing her at Thurmond.
Unfortunately, the county has imposed such restrictions and demands that this powwow will be moved next year to a more amicable surroundings. Will post it at the proper time.

They have extended the dates for this powwow. It will run on Sunday, Sept. 18 as well. With Grand Entry at noon. Event runs from 12-5 p.m. Hope some of y’all will make it to this one since it is one of the few that are actually held on the grounds where native americans lived. There is good spirit here. Bring your lawn chairs and come enjoy the culture.

Gates open at 9am to 7pm. Grand entries 11am and 5pm. Rick Bird will MC, Bird Chopper drums. Admission: adults-$5.00, children 3-17-$3.00 children 2 and under free. There will a luck of the draw, pow wow dancing, drumming, flute playing and many other wonderful things to see and do. No Alcoholic beverages or pets allowed.

Although this is a competition powwow, we were told this weekend that there would be plenty of intertribal dancing available for those that are not competing. I have a flyer at home and will update this post later. Just wanted to get it on the calendar for anyone that might be interested.

This was one of the best powwows we have attended!! There was camping for those that wanted to stay on the grounds…camp feed for dancers and vendors…..mucho hospitality!! Put it on your calendar for next year-same weekend-Labor Day. Had about 12 vendors, many dancers….but the spirit was fantastic!! And a lovely view of the foothills of NC in the background.

Had a good time at Town Creek Indian Mound….the weather held out for the most part. The cool part is good especially if you’re dancing.
There were two food vendors this year and just a smattering of other vendors. The dancing was really good…Ric Bird always does a fine job.
The best part was the powwow was 2 days, Saturday and Sunday…..back to what it was originally. This makes it even more worth the trip…..and there are some good hotels just a short drive away or you can stay on the grounds. Just be aware that it is primitive camping…but, to many being there where others have trod for thousands of years is really special….as a dancer having a hot shower and a flush toilet at night means a lot…LOL. If you are looking for a good seafood restaurant, Blue Bay in Albemarle has excellent food….and wonderful service. We will be looking forward to going back to this powwow again next year…it has become a family tradition.
